Pros who drink and play

Who are the professional players known to throw a drink or two back while they play? I know Bergman always has a pint, Keith always has a bottle of Bud, and Hatch used to drink and play before he got sober. I see a lot of pints while watching older snooker matches. I'm just curious who amongst the current pros usually plays on the sauce.

Does Jason Kirkwood count? If so, he should be sponsored by whatever beer he drinks
Jason

I watched kirkwood drink budlights ,i forget if they both had to drink one per game,or maybe every 5-10 minutes, against bobby pickle playing even on the bartable. I don,t know if pickle had EVER been beaten at that game, but kirkwood drank and played STRoNG lol(bud lights if i remember correctly, executive west at the derby around 2006-2007) the bet was high TOO lol,i just don,t remember how much, but kirkwood really ,really, played lights out on the barbox and actually got better after about 12 beers. I saw them each drink AT LEAST 24(case) each before i moved on to other action. I remember seeing jason a few hours later and I PROMISE you,he was gonna be hurting the next day. But,YES, he might be the strongest drinker/player out there.(Please don,t forget the late, great ,scotty townsend when it came to this either.

Not throwing name out there but I remember about 10 years ago, a specific player doing very well in the pit at the Expo and sucking down Vodka and Redbulls...

Was very impressive...

Scotty Townsend

Scotty was a living legend for his ability to play high level pool even after being up a few days on a bing..Now deceased his legend will never die..Miss him..spent a lot of time with him here & on some road trips..lots of memories & crazy stories like many others that ran with him back in the day !

I watched Bobby Pickle beat Efren(hill-hill) on the t.v. table at DCC in '07. BP was knocking back Bud longnecks as fast as they could deliver 'em. Very entertaining match

Gary Abood

Gary could play at a high level being pretty hammered...WE made a lot of spur of the moment money with games people thought they had the best of it because he was shit faced lol

I think today's crop of young and very good players it depends on the setting. I've gotten to play with a lot of young good players, Danny Smith, Rob Saez, J Roberts, and even Alex and Dennis, when it's worth winning, there isn't much sipping going on. I have been in smaller events with some of these guys and we all had several together... Scotty was amazing on the sauce, but, I think that old school talent of playing with a pool god on your shoulder while hammered is fading out fast. SO many good players put a crap load of work into it now with coaching etc... It's definitely better for the future of the game.

I'd imagine anybody running with you had to be able to drink and play!

Can't remember the exact year but around 2007-2008 at BCA Vegas at Riveria..
Bobby Pickle had just gotten out of jail spending 12 months and BCA decided he could play in the OPEN mixed singles 8 ball...BCA felt he would be out of stroke.....

I was walking around watching matches and my friend calls me over...He asks me if I know this player, (Bobby Pickle), because he says the guy is so drunk and throwing down beers and falling asleep in his chair...He says I have to wake him up to shoot and he gets up and runs out....I told my friend who he was and that he has been making a killing at the gambling table outside....Drunk and all...Bobby went undefeated and took home the $7,000 1st place money in the OPEN division...Amazing.....

The main problem besides coordination declining when drunk is that you have to urinate so often especially if one is drinking beer- it becomes a big distraction!

So I guess you would rather play them sober ? I think not ! Lol....

Im pretty sure the year was 2002, that Pickle won the BCA Amateur Open division.

Back in those years, you had a bunch of "pro" level guys that snuck in i.e. Chris Melling, Jason Kirkwood, Justin Bergman, et al.
