Looking to identify the maker of a cue

I recently picked up a cue on an eBay impulse buy, based purely on looks, with the thought of giving it to one of my nephews. I was hoping someone could identify the cue's maker from the pictures below. Some of the workmanship on the cue (e.g. points not even in length, inlays being off a bit, etc.) leads me to think that this might be an amateur maker. Pics are shown below, and the eBay description, which appears to be correct, was:

"Unknown maker pool cue. All designs are done with inlays. Cue has 21 Rings, 48 inlays plus 4 Spears of Rosewood or walnut with quadruple veneers. White with green specks linen wrap. The length from bumper to end of tip is 57", brass joints, ferrule and tip are around 11.75 to 12 mm. "

Thanks in advance

Late 70's-80's el cheapo asian import. I had one almost exactly like it. In 1978 they were around 40-50bux.

Thanks for the info, I will send it on to the nephew. If he gets into this for real, I will give him one of my Schon's when he gets a bit older.

Most had ramin-wood shafts. Those might warp in 4 months. The joint lock-up was not to good either. Seemed like i was always re-tightening it. It was my first two-piece. They did a nice job on the points tho.

I believe the company is Ajay. Taiwanese from the 70’s if I recall.

A lot of the mass produced import cues on Ebay are advertised as "unknown maker" to create the illusion that it might be some rare famous maker.

More likely they know exactly where and how it was made. I don't think it's rare, unknown or even old.

Ajay was one of them, but they were sold under numerous brands, often hard to nail down and not really worth the time doing so unless one just digs the adventure of trying.

Thanks to all for the feedback, it was very helpful. I'm not going to dig any further on this, its for a 14 yr old, so looks matter a bit more than function, so it will serve that purpose. Even for a cheap cue, the hit is not too bad on this one, so it will fit the short term need. If he is still playing when he hits 18, he will get to choose a shon or one of my other cues.

You may want to get him something better, that shaft looks a bit, ick to use a term hehe.

Get a Players HXT cue, would look more modern and have a good tip and shaft.

I think this would suit a teenager better https://www.seyberts.com/pure-x-play-cues/pure-x-technology-hxt90-pool-cue/ https://www.seyberts.com/pure-x-play-cues/pure-x-technology-hxte5-pool-cue/ My son used a Players HXT/PureX cue for a few years, won a few state championships with it, it went to someone else from his junior league after that for another year, good stuff for the money.
