Coos Cues
I have cloth that is still in good shape technically. No tears, pretty clean.

But it's rougher than hell after I vacuum it and clean it with a damp towel and woolite.

By rough I mean abrasive feeling compared to when it was new and slick. I think it's taking a toll on my balls in more than one way.

Has anyone tried fabric softener mixed with hot water and woolite on simonis?

Think it might help?

Any other ideas short of recovering?

Thanks

Might try briskly rubbing the cloth with dryer sheets. Could help "de-fuzz" it. How strong is your vac? Don't need much to clean it. Played on Simonis for years and have never noticed abrasive like you mention. It usually gets shinier, sliker over time.

You thinking too strong a vacumn suction is pulling up/creating some nap?

It can happen. Light suction and NO moving bristles/beater bar is what you want. I've heard of people using an iron set on LOW as long as beeswax wasn't used on seams.

From my experience wiping down with a damp cloth will give the cloth a stiff feeling when it dries, kind of like hanging clothes on the clothes line. It should soften up with use/brushing. I personally wouldn't use a fabric softener, when you use it on clothes the clothes are rinsed afterward, can't do that on a pool table, the fabric softener will stay in the cloth and attract dirt.

Makes sense to me! :thumbup2:

I vacuum and damp wipe my cloth and allow it to dry. Then i spray it as evenly as i can with spray starch. The same stuff my wife uses on the dress shirt collars; nothing fancy. I iron it while wet just like the shirt collar.Don't go too hot on the iron setting or you'll leave scorch marks in it. Think synthetic not wool or cotton. Don't forget most cloth is 20-30% nylon.

I usually do a quarter or less of the table at one time. when you're done you may see some slight color differences where you overlapped, etc. Don't panic that usually wears off with about 3 sets of nine ball give or take. Also may play just a touch slippery; like with clean balls. this also will pass.

I do this only when my cloth gets frizzy like you're describing. I've had friends ask me if I've recovered it. That's how much this helps.
