So I am curious has anyone been to or heard of a tournament where you were not allowed to use your own cue but a standard one piece house cue? I guess thoughts?

I have offered to play off the wall more than a couple times when my opponent said he didn't have a cue to use.
There was a period when I was popping into the pool room occasionally but didn't own a cue...so a house cue doesn't slow me down too much...plus, since I am used to playing with a billiard cue, a fat taper is of little consequence to me.
I do have a bunch of Dufferins at my house and will occasionally use them.

Can the tournament director guarantee that all the cues will be the same? What if I got there 2 mins after everyone else and all that was left were the cues without tips?
I'd think nobody has a right to any cue if he is not playing a match.
And you better start practicing with a tipless cue, justnum case this becomes a reality.
I think that would be part of the fun not knowing weather you would get a bent cue or not. Or maybe a cue with no tip etc. Also be like me and arrive 15 minutes early to everything.
Why??? It would have little to effect, no matter how they change the rules the best players will likely win. They tried that at our race tracks, changed the rules thinking more or different people would win, the guys that won before the rule changes were the same ones that won after the rule changes.

I'll do it. I go to a bar and play about once a month. House cues with slip on tips and I can still win easily. You might have to spend 2 minutes scrubbing the glazed tip with the sharp edge of the chalk, but it's all good. I purposely switch cues and play with a house cue in my basement. I have 4 different cue balls, including the crap polyester ones that are on most bar boxes. It's good to adapt, what better way than to practice it at home. I even play with different weights and hardness of tips. Not every session, but I switch them up from time to time.
I have often wondered if we could draw in larger sponsorship from just this concept? Say a large brand wants to sponsor but you must play with their equipment. Would you? It happens in all other major sports.

It would be very interesting to see a tournament where all players were "issued" a standard $50.00 McDermott Lucky or something similar where all cues are alike.

Most tournies have at least one cue sponsor. I dont think that tourny would find one.
When playing bangers I often don't use my cue to even the game a bit or to keep them from being all scared to play when they see that you actually are so amazing as to own you own cue. We all know only top level pros can afford their own cues so it seems to scare people soon as they see this master with his own cue. Never mind a real case for it.
Hence the reason for a decent sneaky pete with a decent tip on it in a $10 nylon case.
It is somewhat amusing to read the proposed changes to make the non-competitive more competitive.

J/K by the way.Why not just issue one cue per table, and each competitor uses it when it is his/her turn? How much more level can the playing field get than that? Of course you'd need a bucket of hand sanitizer at each table, as well.
