Hello ,

I seen a older thread here about some leagues banning Break cues with Phenolic tips as they were damaging cue balls. Is that true and if so what tip would you install on a break cue that would not damage the cue ball. My Son bought a break cue with phenolic tip and we use Aramith Super Phenolic cue ball , just wanted to make sure it would not damage the ball. Thanks

obviously plenty of folks use phenolic tips
they must not be bad all the time
but I have seen those tips crack cue balls
personally, a hard leather tip works for me

I think this was just discussed in a thread that talked about putting a phenolic tip on a carbon fiber shaft.

Apparently its the G10 tips that cause the ball damage. I use a WhiteDiamondUltra and get ALL the speed i need and still have some degree of control. Much better than the phenolic i tried. Highly recommend this tip. http://piconecues.com/id4.html

When he built it my local cue maker friend put a phenolic tip on my custom made break/jump cue so I had him change it out for a Samsara break/jump tip, which is made of hardened leather. I plan on playing in tournaments and want it to be legal. It works very well for me.
