I use a cloth piece under the cue ball for breaking so no marks there but I have a wear spot under the second ball in the rack which is my target in eight ball breaks, Also on the cloth in front of the foot rail where balls frequently hit on eight ball breaks is getting worn although less so. These are both more than discoloration, the cloth is getting thinner. I cheaped out a little and got Champion cloth on my last cloth replacement and it seems to be worse and sooner on this cloth than the Simonis I have had before. I have started breaking from the other side but that is not ideal. Has anybody come up with solutions, like cutting a piece off a spot and covering these wear spots? Thanks.

you wear a pair of shoes on pavement they wear out quicker than on carpet. if you want your cloth to stay nice and pretty for a long time dont break on it hard.
the harder you use something the faster it deteriorates, simple as that. and the cheaper you buy the quicker it wears out and gives less utility while you use it.

Hey Patrick, I was wondering, you know how new cloth is slippery and the balls roll into the pockets cleanly? Since my cloth got older, balls jar and hang up much easier. Is there any way to make the cloth slippery again? I was wondering if a thorough cleaning or even a cool iron on the corners would help. I'm thinking about refacing the pockets as well - I don't love the job the mechanic did. Some of the pocket faces are slightly curved - I think because the rail cloth is pulled too tight maybe.

You can't get cloth that's broken-in back to the slick-n-slippery way it was when new.
Instead of using a break pad or spot for your preferred CB break position you can also use those little white donut sticky things (AKA loose leaf hole protectors).
When I got my table it had that cheap shag cloth with the white linen backing and that stuff burned way easier than the CPBA cloth that I installed a while back.
How you liking that CPBA cloth?

I have the championship tour edition in traditional green. I use a break cloth, alternate weekly which end I break from, and which side I break from. Still got the burn marks like crazy. Doesn't bother me in the least.
Not to hijack, but how long are you guys getting out of cloth on your home tables. I am at 3.5 years and I would conservatively guesstimate that the table is played on around 20 hours per week. I am starting to notice a few tiny holes in the cloth. At first I thought I had a couple of gnats land on the cloth, but upon closer inspection they were tiny holes....about 4 of them at random places around the table. My first thought that it could be from jumping, but I don't think so.
Just wondering if 3.5 years is a reasonable time frame for a recover...

Typically I do mine once a year. I use Simonis 860. If you are playing 20 hours a week then I would say after 3.5 years its definitely time for a change. Cloth is cheap, its not like its going to cost a few grand. Treat yourself, tis the season!

On a home table? Good worsted in a home setting will last way longer than that. It may have spots/marks on it but that in no way lessens the playability. I know guys that have 5-6yrs on 860 and it still plays great.
Yeah, on a home table. I mean, why not? Its only around $500 and there's nothing like having new cloth. I figure I may as well treat myself. The longest I have ever gone without new cloth is about two years.
Its my understanding Jeanette Lee had new cloth put on her table every four months or so. Of course I am not sure what that cost her - if anything.

I know of pool halls that don't change that often. In a home setting it'll get used but not abused like a pool hall. I am over 3 years now, and will probably replace it in the next year. But no other reason than I 'feel' it is about time. Still plays better than any 9 foot in town.

Why would what JL does mean anything?? And yes, i doubt she pays much if anything for it.
I like it. It performs similar to the years-old Simonis 860 on the Gandy at the local Elks lodge, faster than the Championship and other stuff used to recover the local Valley bar boxes. I had to dial back stroke power.
I went with it because it was inexpensive and it was my second attempt at recovering a table but I would probably go with again.
