Would this game concept be fun and fix/help the racking war situation in 9 ball/10 ball?

This game idea involves the classic numbered pills from the shaker that most everyone has around their pool room somewhere. This game could be adapted for 9 ball/10 balls, or any # of balls really. Start by racking all 15 balls in random order. Break the balls. If 9 ball is desired, take the # of balls left on the table and subtract 9. Randomly draw that # of pills from the bottle (each opponent could alternate selecting pills). Remove those balls from the table. Run the rest in order as normal (lowest to highest).

This might do something to add an element of chance to the game and would be more difficult to rig any given outcome I would think. But mainly I think it would be fun. What do y’all think?

Alternatively, we can keep offering the same tired product that garners no $ and we can hustle the people that no longer go to the pool rooms that no longer exist.

Lol, just trying to stir up a discussion...hey, bonus ball got one thing right...the chicks

It's too complicated for the unwashed masses.
What about a new way to rack . 1 ....2.... 3......3 or 1 ..... 3......3....2 whatever combination eliminates a "wired" ball

This forum needs a "New Game of the Month" sticky. Seriously, why keep re-inventing the games/rules?? This version, too me anyway, is kinda wacky. Just my $.02 here, nothing more.

That's technically $.03 worth, just to make that clear. LOL, I love pool, but even I can barely bring myself to watch it, even on the pro level. I didn't even watch the last 2 Mosconi Cups. I officially fire myself as a pool fan.

my latest game to practice is shooting every other shoot without looking.

the theory is I should know how to move my body blindly.

what I am practicing is trusting my physical instincts

shooting without looking looks cool in the movies, but to master it ... it makes practice fun again

Anyone want to play fantasy billiards using fargorates and simulated player events?
The main purpose is to share information we have about specific players on a regular basis.

I think the additional aspect of having to get the pills and pick them out would be troublesome. You could just rack all 15 balls and then pull the the 10 and up for 9B or the 11 and up for 10B.

That's a great way to test your stroke and stance.

Because we are unhappy with where pool is today and want to spice it up in some way that draws in more people.

We just can't ever agree on what that "spice" will be that ends up bringing in those more people.
Perhaps that is because we are looking at the problem from the inside !?!

Why pool is where it is here has nothing to do with the games being played. Its doing fine in Europe and Asia and those folks haven't seen the need for gimmick game inventions.

I agree, new games won't bring in new people. Pool has a stigma attached to it and that won't go away unless it becomes a mainstream sport, the only way to do that is to get more people involved. I think a huge emphasis needs to be put on juniors so as they age they will have a different view on the sport and hopefully it will grow.

Agree 100%. If we can't attract young players the game will eventually die off. New games or wonky adaptations of current games won't help anything.

Well, returning to my original thoughts...this idea might help solve pattern racking, which yours truly feels is against the spirit of the game.

Easy to stop pattern racking if tournament director is any good. 1 in front, 9 in the middle and the rest at random. PR should never be allowed.

No doubt. Part of the problem is that pool tournies don't have enough staff to properly officiate matches. Does pattern racking happen at the Derby? Turningstone? I've not kept up with such matters in a few years.
