Tourney Double-Elim Format Question

Looking for a rough idea on how many matches I can fit into one day.

- 2 Tables
- Double Elim
- 8-Ball races to 2 on winner side
- 9-Ball race to 2 on loser side

Ultimately, the question is, how many entrants can be allowed, before it's too many to finish in one day.

With 32 players you have 32 matches on each table, more or less. At half an hour each, that's 16 hours. At 15 minutes each, that's 8 hours.

A different plan is to run four-player single-elimination qualifiers. Start the qualifiers as soon as four people sign up. The qualified players return at 9 PM for the finals. Stop running the qualifiers at 8:30. Players can re-enter if they lose in a qualifier to play in another qualifier, time permitting.

With only two tables, you’re not likely to get more than 6 matches of 8-ball in per hour or 8 matches of 9-ball in per hour.

For double elimination, a 16 player field will require 30 total matches whereas a 32 player field will require 62 total matches. Also, for the semi finals and finals of both there can only be one table in use.

Based on these numbers, with 16 players, the 8-ball tournament would likely take you around five hours to play with the 9-ball tournament taking you a little less than four hours to play.

For 32 players, you can pretty much double those times to play the entire tournament.
