Cue shaft made specifically for that cue, is it critical to the overall performance

Looking for opinions, if a cue maker such as Szamboti, Scruggs, Southwest and the list goes on and on, matches their shaft with the cue that they made, is the actual shaft made for that cue critical to the performance. What I’m trying to understand is, if you get a new shaft that matches the cue, also from another reputable cue maker not a production line, will the cue play the same?

For a high-end cue, having the original shafts is a big pluss. If it's crucial for the performance depends on what you're really asking about. The original shafts is how the cue maker intended the cue to feel, but if your more comfortable with another shaft, it's your cue and your free to use whatever shaft you feel you play the best with.

The reason I’m asking is because I want to stay with the original cue makers shaft, this particular cue is a Tim Scruggs shaft, it seems to be a rarity, I guess I’ll have to be patient. I did contact Bob Frey, I heard he’s not working as much as he used to. Thank you for your response, I appreciate it.
