You would not think the pockets are buckets on my table. I have them shimmed to about 4.7 (yes, buckets) but, just like a diamond, if you hit any one of my corner pockets wrong you will miss, especially when drawing. This was not intended but the shims absolutely affected this and it helps my game when playing on Diamonds ;)

Did you change the angles? On my 8+ Gandy with 4.25" corner pockets balls hit like garbage mostly go in. The same thing is true with the 4.5" Gandy Big G's at a local pool hall. All of these tables have stock angles and are shimmed by adding facings.

When it was 5" pockets it was much, much easier. I removed the thin shims and installed thick shims, when I first installed it it wasn't that bad because it was slick but now that it's got some use if there's any opposite spin on the OB going in a corner, it will rattle it or kick it out. Wasn't done on purpose but I love the fact it's a PITA sometimes because it forces me to focus more.

EDIT: I should add, pocket speed works well, I am referring to balls getting kicked due to speed or English. In reality, it acts a bit like a Diamond so when I really need to dig into a ball I have to stop and think about it, which helps me on the Diamonds.

I think it’s a Brunswick Medalist....doesn’t play as well as a GC...I think they took bad pics on purpose.

Could be right, Czar....I‘m having trouble identifying because of the bad pics...
...they both got the long side rails unlike the GC that has six separate rails.

My 9' Big G is the same. Love how it plays! And it cost a lot less than a GC or Diamond

GC are great because they are so easy to restore or customize. The sides are nice grade plywood (no partial board). You can paint them to match your room.

I have one I painted a dark gray to match the fireplace. It was white and in the room looked like a behemoth but once it was painted it blended right in and looked great.

One of the knocks on the gold crown for home use has always been its commercial look a lot of women don't like them. But that can be remedied very easily even with custom pinstriping or whatever comes into your head.

I had a pool room once where I closed for 2 days we repainted the whole place including the ceiling and all of the tables. When I reopened the customers walked in they would open a door and stop in their tracks it's like they were in a brand new place.

There's no plywood used in building a GC, unless you're counting the top plate in the pedestals, which is not painted, and not visible.

I have a beautiful GC I listed on ebay for $2700. That is not an arm and a leg!
 
I cut my "pool teeth" on 2 Gandy 4x8 coin ops in a hot dog joint in Toledo, Ohio in the 60'S & 70'S that had constant action & don't remember ever having any problems with either of them other than they had noisy ball returns & you could shoot a ball into a side pocket & it would go down but come back up out of the other side pocket & onto the table ( no, i don't do drugs & i saw this happen 3 times in 10 years ) Another interesting thing is it would make a funny "bloop,bloop" sound when a shooter would rattle a ball in a pocket & when you heard it you knew without seeing it that it was the "mating call of the wild Gandy Bird" & that you had just been "Had" I still laugh out loud today when i recall it !! Oh for the good ol' days,Jus' Sayn' !!
