I love my restored WH. I had the cue maker make the handle thinner so it feels like a modern cue. And I added an OB shaft so it plays the way I like it. Complete with reproduction decal that looks damn near accurate to me. It looks great and I saved a piece of history. For under $1000, for cue and restore, what's not to like.

I would never sell this cue, ever, in a million years.

Oh, and a WH cue without the decal is a like a Ferrari without the prancing pony on the front hood

Nah, need both.

Plus, the decal is so close to being perfect, nobody but an expert on WH cues would even notice. Nor would anyone care.

Folks refinishing WH cues are not hiding the fact it was refinished. That's the fun part, we are saving a piece of history. The cue was unplayable when I bought it for $200. The shaft was warped, the butt was warped, the joint was fuked up, the butt cap was cracked. Now, better than new

The reason the label bugs me is not so much the subtle differences in the new vs original labels. The color is very close, and of course originals varied in color also. It is set just a bit too high on the cue and it is noticeable when its in line with the others. I would much rather the cue maker had used the green label that the one piece had from the factory. I have a vintage 12 cue Brunswick rack and my dream is to have it full of original Hoppe cues, I am half way there!

So, if they had used the green label, it would not have "sat" as high on the cue? You get to decide where the label sits if you have it refinished, no?

RJ I got the cue in a trade so it is what it is. The real problem was the butt sleeve was extended and that makes the decal too high, and I don't like the look. Its not the labels fault or the guy who did the conversion. The label has no chips or dings in it so its just too perfect. It is my fault for being so picky. When I first got the cue I was going to throw it on the lathe and turn the black linen extension down to 5/16 of an inch to match the others in the rack. Simple job to do this but I thought I would wait and see if I cant get used to it.

That is almost funny, but Old Wood is Different that's New Wood.

Remember years ago gentleman had Cue Shafts from wood that was sunk in a lake for 100 YEARS, they were more on the Yellow/Brown not Creamy White, the rings in wood were very close, the weight of Shaffer we like 4.5 OZ. Hit was Unique.
