What should I expect to pay for a good Gold Crown

In my Canadian city of 1.5 million, about a 30 or so new listings for billiard tables are in the local Kjiji ( like Craigs list) ads every week. The brand of the table be it Gold Crown or whatever doesn’t matter that much. They all end up selling for $200 to $500 despite a higher initial listing. Often the brand, even if high end, isn’t even in the ad…’pool table, like new,..hardly used. ..etc.’ I play a fun game of looking at photos and trying to guess the brand. If I text and ask it might be ‘I’ll check when I get home’.

Pool tables are like like Pianos. People just want them gone. And people who want one and have the room for one, likely already have a pool table..It’s not an item even keeners want two of or can usually be bothered replacing.

edit: I was curious so just checked for the last 24 hours. 8 new table listings…only one mentions the brand. A couple of the others are more like living room furniture descriptions. Two are ‘coin operated’ but no brand mentioned.

typical ad:
while a agree...some "piano's" sell quickly. Someone looking for a GC or a Diamond is not our typical pool table buyer. There are literally hundreds of tables for sale locally to me...most say: paid 3K, sacrifice for 1k. You overpaid for a pool and spa place to deliver you a pool table, not a Gold Crown..or Diamond [dont want to offend the fan boys :)]. I agree with you....but....I am not sure it applies to GC's.

Where are you located? Personally, I would stay away from dealers. You don't know the story of the table and it could be a Franken-Crown: a Gold Crown put together with parts from different tables that may or may be correct parts for that table. If it were me, I'd do as much homework as possible and really educate yourself on these tables. There are many experts on here so ask a ton of questions. I'd scour Craigslist and Offer-Up for private parties selling tables. You'll know a well cared for table when you see it and there are deals to be had. My buddy and I scored a couple Gold Crown I's out of a bowling alley a year or two ago. They were cosmetically shot but had only been recovered a couple times in their life and you could tell they hadn't been played on much. They were asking $1K each and we scored them for $400 each. We each did cosmetic restorations on them and had a competent mechanic do the subrail work, tighten the pockets, install new rubber and setup. At the end of the day, I've got around $2K-$2,500 (most of that is in subrail work, cushions, new cloth and setup) in mine and I learned a ton about these tables. I don't know what level of table you want but if you have the tools and the skill set, buy one that needs a little work and have at it. I wanted as close to a brand new looking Gold Crown I as if it had just arrived from the factory and that's what I've got. Good luck! Keep us posted on your journey!

Here's a before and after shot of my table. I decided to paint my aprons Brunswick Blue.

Here's a shot of my buddy's table and mine. He did his in Brunswick Tangerine.

I like both of these colors. I've seen a few in the Brunswick blue, do you have any more of the Tangerine (different angles)? I'm getting ready to pick a color direction and it's between these two. I would also like to find a gold one even though that's the color I'm going away from. 50 year old gold probably doesn't look the same as freshly painted gold and it would be nice to compare. Thanks.

I've got an old GCI that's taking up space in my garage. I need to move it out of there. First $1,000 gets the table. It's actually a pretty clean table overall; rails, slate, aprons, pocket castings all clean. Comes with accessories and a nice table light. I'm in L.A.
Which is a fine example of gold crown scores...

Right place, right time.

Somebody take this sucker off!!!!

I do not have any other pics of the Tangerine table or a Gold one. Sorry.

What angle do you want to see. The tangerine is mine (and I loooooove it).

A full side profile straight on would be great. My wife is lobbying for blue, I like both as long as they are original colors. Blue is probably safer, tangerine is bolder and in my wife's eye has more potential to clash with other items. I'm not hindered by such notions, but I do live with her. I can't go wrong with either. Thanks.

If your like me and the underpart of the table becomes a storage area, I would recommend a dock box. I picked up two of these and the fit inside the skirt of my Gold Crown IV. They are not in the way of my feet at all and they blend well with the table.

By the way, I picked up this Gold Crown IV off of a craigslist for $425- delivered. The people had to get rid of it and already had it in a truck.

Hope these help. The closeup is from a light Rexus and his father in law built (wicked cool light), but it's the same paint used on the table. I was thinking white or blue, but opted for the old school orange. No regrets.

There's something to be said about resurrecting an old GC1 or 2 and bringing it back to life. They are so beautiful and play so nice once you get the cosmetics done right and then have a true mechanic who knows what he's doing complete the finishing touches. I have two GC1's in my room and wouldn't part with them. The old timers love those tables but we're in Diamond Country now and they are taking over the industry.

Good to see you posting, Jerry! I prefer a well sorted Gold Crown I to a Diamond. Then again, I'm 50 now so maybe I'm considered an old timer...LOL.
