Seyberts Tip Repair Question

I have a Pat Diveney pool cue. I did not want to attempt to put a new tip on myself due to the high value of the cue. So I sent it to Seyberts.com to get it done professionally. The instructions on the website was just to send it in with a note with your address and phone etc and they would call you for payment. So that is what I did. Forgetting Christmas was a few days away. I assumed it would arrive on a business day. Well it was Christmas week and now I am worried that it might have been out in the cold getting warped (the pool cue shaft) on the porch of the business.

Hopefully It was not. Does anyone know how these shops work? Is it a possibility that the pool cue shaft was left out in the cold. Thanks.

everything is late

Do you have a tracking number. What is the status. Call them tomorrow and check in. I bought cues in the middle of winter and they were ok. Good luck here.

Let me get this straight...you sent a high value shaft away for a new TIP? That's like sending your car back to Ford for a new valve stem. Shame....shame...shame. Really? Where do you live that you couldn't find a decent cue repair guy to replace a tip.

Here I found a cue repair shop in Kazakhstan:
https://kz.all.biz/en/repair-of-billiard-rooms-kiev-s161948

Full disclosure I do my own but when convenient I have used the services of others.

I seriously doubt that with them being a business they would just leave things outside, like they would at a home address. They more than likely have it set up to hold till someone is there to recieve stuff. As far as getting cold, living in Northern Wi., packages do arrive cold coming off the truck in the winter. Nobody with a lathe that I knew of by me, I bought my own lathe because of this, and because I just like doing things myself.

I have considered buying a lathe but am not good at stuff like this. I will reconsider.

I love it. Was a short learning curve for me as I have a vast woodworking and wood turning experience behind me. Also step dad owned a machine shop and we had a metal lathe at home to play with. That was 55 years ago though with the metal lathe.. Also there is alot of good people to help with your questions under the cuemakers, or cue machinery headings. Most there are very helpful in giving you advice. Be respectful to them, and for the most part they will be respectful in return.

You can learn. Buy cheap dowels from Home Depot. Practice on a cheap beat up cue. Buy a $15 cue with a screw on tip and replace it. Do not be apprehensive about tipping. You'll learn from mistakes. You'll get better each time. Watch uTubes to get a mental picture.

If you are uncomfortable with a lathe try by hand with the right tools. You can learn to tip manually and get respectable results. Practice and you'll learn/improve. We can help...give some good advice & tips (no pun). Other wise get the proper rigid shipping tubes and a competent repair guy.... but i'm not fan of shipping treasured cues. Keep them close to home

I agree. I live in the middle of nowhere in the great Midwest and there's an excellent cue guy an hour from me.

Don’t get me wrong, Seyberts does good work, but are you telling me you couldn’t find anyone better qualified than Seyberts to do your tip work on such a nice cue? I don’t believe they even have a dedicated pool cue mechanic on their staff to handle all their re-tips, at least as of six months to one year ago.

My understanding is that responsibility is shared by a number of the sales staff. It’s really quite amazing to me they are as good as they are at it. I’m guessing they must have the right equipment / setup and have someone who properly trained everyone.

I bought a drill motor lathe. Gonna practice on one of my old cues first. Hopefully the shaft is still in good shape.

Not sure if work is done on location but I sent them 2 Duff house cues for conversion. Also had wraps (both leather and linen) put on wrapless cues. They can accommodate almost anything. Yes to authorized Predator. Alway good to call them for any questions...excellent customer service. As good as it gets.
