No glove. corn starch , baby powder or something else?

I’m finally getting to play tomorrow for probably 5 hours. I don’t have a glove and am wondering if corn starch or baby powder is better to use as a lubricant for my bridge hand? Will any of these damage the shaft in any way? How often would I need to apply? How messy are they? I’m going to play at a pool hall that has no old school cone talc and my hands tend to sweat. Thanks

CF is not plastic. Please.
Sorry.... it actually is.

Carbon fiber is made from organic polymers, which consist of long strings of molecules held together by carbon atoms.

Polymers are everywhere. Just look around. Your plastic water bottle. The silicone rubber tips on your phone’s earbuds. The nylon and polyester in your jacket or sneakers. The rubber in the tires on the family car.

So technically speaking, the resins used to bond the carbon chain fibers together are actually a form of plastic.

Agree but the basic carbon PAN threads/strands aren't plastic are they? Have to add the resin for that. Not true?

Correct. The stranding fiber is made of carbon chains. That's what gives products light weight and strength. The resin used to bind them together are of plastic origin. The combination of the two gives it the description of a composite.

Plastic is just a generic term used to describe a wide array of materials.

I watched a cool doc. about the first CF F1 chassis made by McLaren back in '81. Now almost the entire car is made of the stuff. Hercules out in Utah was making aerospace stuff and wanted to branch out to other areas. The rest is racing history.

True. Fiberglass resin does the same. Most of use have used a fiberglass bar cue. Safe to say that carbon fiber is a superior product for billiard cues.

Although wood is still an excellent choice.

Spot on.

In all reality, the fiberglass resin is likely the same as most CF resin. I would doubt that most of these shafts are put in an autoclave, which would produce the best results.

Just looking for advice for the best, easiest, most cost effective and reasonable options. It doesn’t seem like just clean hands and a clean shaft would be slippery enough but then again I’ve never played like that either. When I last played every hall had talc cones
I used to use a glove, but with a Revo or any other carbon shaft I've found that a glove isn't necessary.

A buddy at DCC said that CF shafts are EVERYWHERE. Pros and Joe's are all using them. So much for that " ahh, its just a fad that won't last". 10yrs from now they're all you're gonna see at any event of any size/importance.

Possible. Maybe likely. I dont dislike carbon fiber. I stick with wood because a well made shaft is at least half the cost of CF.

I used my brothers OB Fusion shaft once. I really liked it. CF core with wood exterior. Had the percieved benefits of CF, with the sound and feel of wood. If I ever get a CF shaft, I think that will be the one.

Just buy a glove man. There are so many cheap options. They are comfortable I forget I even have mine on sometimes. I play with the predator second skin. Very breathable and the finger tips are left exposed so it shouldn't throw off the feel. Also if you own a table since your palm is covered it helps keep oils from your hand off the cloth win/win.

The "feel" is from the shaft moving back and forth in your bridge, not from your fingertips touching the table.

No, but if you get white stuff on the table every real player in the place will hate you. There's a reason you don't see chalk cones anymore.

Back when I used to play at the Greeley Senior Center someone on the staff (non-player) decided we needed one of those cones and got one with a wooden holder attached to the wall. Within a day it had been mysteriously broken, and staff had the good sense to not replace it.
Those rowdy seniors wrecking the place. Get off the lawn !
