Dr. Dave Chalk shootout😃

A gross of Master chalk is about $35 retail.

A gross of $20 chalk is $2880.00 retail.

If someone buys one or two pieces a year... not a big deal.

But companies making 2k+ off one box of chalk... I don't know if that's right.
That is sort my idea .... just seems like to much money for something like chalk. it probably cost them <$1 to produce

If you're going to sell something, anything, it's *always* better to purport to have a superior product, target the top of the market, and charge the most. You make more money with less hassle if you don't sell to the coupon crowd. We can't all be Walmart.

Note - this is a business opinion, not a pool opinion. I use cheap chalk that matches whatever color cloth is on my table at the time.

And you get a player or two who will wear your patch to drive hype. But, what happens when a trusted independent source says your product is indeed superior?

I have had my V10 about a week so far. What a difference vs Masters. I was a BIG Masters proponent. Still am for the most part. When you have a pre shot routine and chalk before every shot, Masters works as well as any chalk on the market. Grips, wont miscue and stays on.
However, it is messy. It leaves a lot of dust that will build up over time. I have a table in my finished basement and I can feel the dust on the floor and rails after a few hours of playing. The inside of my Diamond also had quite a bit of chalk dust in the ball return. I cleaned the table inside and out, polished the balls and cleaned my stick.
I am really on the fence with some version of Taom for my home table. Only makes sense to cut down on mess when you're the one having to clean it up. That said, when I read comments like the above regarding chalk dust build up on the rails/floor to the point where you can feel it after a few hours, I'm left scratching my head.

My hands are never blue after a day of play. My table or floor have never shown signs of chalk build up. I'm sure there's some there, but nowhere near the point of actually feeling it. Although not mentioned above. I also don't have a blue circle around my ferrule.

I'm all for more cleaniness at home. However, if the comparable needs to be such extremes to warrant the value in Taom. Then I have to wonder why bother.

i have a home table and been playing pool for 20yrs .... what mess ?? i also recover my own table

i do as well.... but as a consumer and looking at the product of CHALK $30 is a bit silly to pay.
A good comparable would be to ask if anyone would spend $10 on a piece of chalk to play on league night and glue a $20 to the bottom of it.

Some of that only matters on a home table. Go to a tournament and guys use all sorts of chalk so a clean cue ball is out the window.
I still maintain, when playing out (where Masters is provided and the balls are never cleaned), use the stickiest chalk you can find, and hope your opponents forget to use outside english on every cut shot. Expensive Taom is for home use (unless you don’t care about cleanliness or skids), or for solo high-run attempts.

Some pool players are like Golfers and will buy into the latest hype thinking they will play better.
And golfers are the biggest suckers out there for "This will shave 2 strokes off your game"
Now that's not to say that Golf equipment hasn't improved over the last couple decades.

Reminds me of the gas shortages of the '70's when a lot of gas saving gimmicks were sold
I bought every one out there and saved so much gas that every 300 miles I had to empty my tank a little so it wouldn't over flow.
Remember the 'Tornado' gas saver deal??

Was that the one with the little fan you installed in the carburetor? Supposedly the theory was increased turbulence atomized the gas better?
Yep that's it. Supposedly the 'swirl' it generated help burn gas more efficiently. whatever.

Why does it matter if someone wants to buy 30 dollar piece of chalk instead of the cheap stuff?

How is it any different than the guys that buy expensive liquor when the cheap stuff does the same, or guys that buy 2000+ dollar cues when a 400 dollar one does the same thing?

Why are you still beating a dead horse.

I would rather buy the 50c cube of master and take the other 29.50 to the casino
