We have a Miele vacuum for the house that has 6 settings of airflow. On the LOWEST setting, with an upholstery brush attached, it does a great job without ever lifting the cloth or felt depending on who you ask? :) That said, if you use a horse hair brush, which is a great idea, make sure it has medium to longer bristles. Any attachment and vacuum combination that lifts the cloth is not good. Any vacuum where you can not adjust the suction is probably not the best choice.

why is felt wrong to use ?
real felt is a pressed material. go to a hobby store and look at some. it uses cloth but the end product, FELT, is a wholly different product. its not used on billiard tables. i know the word gets used a lot but pool cloth is not felt. now, i knew a dancer yrs ago that like being felt on a pool table but that's a whole 'nother story. ;)
