Hi BobWill a shaft made for a 3/8x10 standard pin screw on to a modified 3/8x10 pin?
Thanks!
Thanks Michael. The reason I'm asking is a few years ago I had a Carmeli cue with the modified pin and either the shafts for it wouldn't screw on to a standard pin or it was the other way around. I just can't remember which way it was.Hi Bob
It all depends on what size the hole is.
Some drill 5/16 for the standard 3/8x10, which will accept the modified. The minor on the old school is .281. The modified, I believe is .306 or 7.
Myself and a few other's use a much smaller hole because we use different tooling that allow us to give a tighter fit basef on the old school screw.
A ten minute trip to any quality cue repairman will be able to drill it out to fit. Thanks Michael. I've got a very nice Jack Madden shaft that I like and I would like to know if it will work on a modified pin.

That sounds backwards .Hi Bob,
I’m not a cue maker, just a lowly player. But I’ve been dealing with this a good bit the last year with a few cues & shafts. From my limited experience it seems most standard 3/8-10’s will often not fit on modified pins; they either bind up and/or are not drilled deep enough. But its an easy fix by a competent cue maker, as mentioned. In contrast, 3/8-10 modified shafts do seem to fit on standard 3/8-10 pins no problem.
Cheers
I’m no expert, just sharing my experiences across several well known big name cue makers. Last example was a gorgeous custom 2000 Tim Scruggs with 3/8-10 regular pin, my modified shafts all fit it fine, but the TS shafts wouldn’t fit my other butts with modified pins. Another example is Meucci sent me several regular 3/8-10 shafts that were supposed to be modified but wouldn’t fit properly; Meucci eventually admitted they were regular ones, not modified. On those, the regular threads seemed to fit ok, but the holes were too shallow & bottomed out early. That sounds backwards .
Modified 3/8 10 needs a bigger hole.
