Mezz ex pro vs sigma

I tried to do some digging on here regarding the actual taper dimension measurement differences between the two. I do not like conical set ups. It sounds like the ex pro is a pro "hybrid" taper where the sigma is a straight pro taper. Anyone played with both? I was pretty certain I would buy the ex pro (seems to be lowest deflection best quality wood shaft they use for their exceed line), but I do not want a thicker taper.

I don't have the sigma but I do have the ex pro, HPII and Ignite. HPII is pro taper and just feels better/more normal than the expro. The difference is very minor but noticeable. The ex pro is not conical but feels like it gets fatter quicker. I assume the sigma replaces the HPII now? You can still get the HPII online and it is carbon core you might want to entertain that as well.

How do you like the taper of your HPII? I like long pro tapers. I'll be going 30 inches for the shaft. Also do you prefer your mezz wood shafts over the CF ignite? Looking for a solid "ping" type hit.

I'm not the one that you directed your inquiries to but I'll offer my thoughts. Also, I've not tried the Sigma or ExPro shafts.

The HP2 definitely does not have what I'd consider a "Pro" taper. IMHO, it's a bit too quick-rise to meet that standard. It does, however, have a solid hit.

Personally, I do not prefer the hit of their wood shafts to my Ignites. The hit of their wood shafts is not bad, I just prefer the pop of the Ignite (wearing Med Zan or pressed Water Buffalo tips). For reference, I've owned/tried the WX700, WX900 & HP2 offerings.

Thanks for the info Keith. Just curious where do you typically buy your mezz equipment from?

I have both shafts, Ex Pro and WX Sigma (12,5). Both shafts are not pro taper, but very close to pro taper. I did not measure them, but I clearly can say that both feel great when playing with closed bridge. I'm a big fan of pure and long pro tapers like the cynergy shaft 12,5 mm, wich is my absolute carbon favorite shaft. The Ex Pro and als WX Sigma 12,5 mm play and feel to me very similar to a pro taper.

For a better relation and understanding for what's feeling good to me: Over the last 2-3 years I mostly playes IQ infinity 12,7 and cynergy 12,5 , and at all infinity shafts (I have 5 of them) I had to sand down the taper a little bit because the original taper was already too conical to me.

At the Ex pro I do not like the sound, which is some kind of hollow to me, and all the tips that I was used to came out too hard in the Ex Pro and the sound was nt nice, this is why I preferred only the Ultraskin Pro ans SIB Pro, which were just about acceptable. I had a couple of different Ex Pro on different butts, and every time it was the same thing with sound and tip. The playing performance of Ex Pro is very good, nothing to complain about.

The WX Sigma instead is a shaft that has a really solid and very natural and consistent sound. It plays great in all different situations with very little deflection. The stiffness of the WX Sigma 12,5 I would call as medium stiff. All in all an absolutely great shaft, I love it. I play it on my old Meucci from year 1989, never had a cue that feels such great, to me the best combination I ever had.

Sigma has the longest taper of any Mezz shaft and even through it has a fairly firm hit (judged against other production cues) it's still the softest hitting Mezz shaft by a good margin. EX Pro has a shorter taper by almost 2" the hit is a little former, deflection is reasonable low, all in all a great shaft imo. Hybrid Pro II, which I played with for years has a much stiffer hit and a shorter taper. The Hybrid Alpha had almost a conical taper to it and a fairly long ferrule. Not much in terms of low deflection and given it's 12.8-13mm tip diameter was difficult to play with using a closed grip, unless you had bigger than average hands.

I was lucky to find a HybridPro(Gen1) for my AXI-K. I love it. One of the best shafts i've ever had. It is 12.8(i have long fingers) with a cf rod inside it. To me it hits like a really nice old-school Schon/Joss shaft but with a little less deflect.

All of the above rings true. I have Expro 2/HP 2/Sigma and an ILC Monster Pro.
Expro is the highest quality finish from the Mezz bunch, doesn't mean it's the best hit. Prefer the taper, feel and hit of the HP 2. The Sigma is a great playing shaft, and I was using it quite happily for Chinese 8 before switching to the ILC shaft, which is an absolute monster. Absolute bargain of a pick up for the quality/feel.

What is an ILC Monster Pro shaft? As for Mezz shafts, I have tried the 900, 700, Ignite and EXPro. I always keep going back to the EXPro. It is not as low deflection as the 900, as it’s become quite obvious to me after having played this game for 50+ years that I prefer some level of deflection.
