The letters TJ are after the name Helmstetter.
Does anyone know when these cues were made? Not sure if they were before or after the move to China? TIA

I believe the TJ described the joint screw. Twin joint.

I have had a Helmstetter TJ for a long time, Maybe 20 years? I would venture a guess that it was before the move. One of my favorite cues and a marvelous player. Six even points and has stayed perfectly straight.

I’ve had a Helmstetter model number 87-16 for well over 20 years (mine was a made in Japan model) and it still plays very well. I had a Predator 314 made for it several years ago and it’s none the worst for wear.

Did Helmstetter ever move? First I've heard of it.
IIRC the lady in Arizona that sells the Chinese-built Balabushka copies also owns the US rights to the Helmstetter cues which are also made in China now. The last new Helm i saw had roman #'s on the buttcap just like a Lucasi. Pretty much tells you that they are Chinese-sourced now. BTW, the cue was very well made. Basically a Lucasi with Helmstetter on it. As for the OP's cue i'm pretty sure all the TJ cues were built in Japan.
