Personal record achieved 9 ball

My best is 3 in 9 and same in 8 ball. Almost had a 4 pack but it was in a tournament against a beginner and I felt guilty he was just racking and missed on purpose. Not sure how many 3 packs I had, probably not more than a few over my whole time playing, at least outside of practice.

I tend to get 2 packs a few times a week in both 8 and 9 when playing several times a week, get one BRN in a race to 5 quite a bit in league/tournaments. This week I actually remember clearly I had a 2 pack in both 9 and 8 playing around with friends and quite a few break and runs or run outs when they broke dry.

It'll never happen again but one game I made 5 balls on the break(!) then the 5 (orange) straight in to the bottom left corner with a stop shot.
Tapped in the 6 sitting close to the upper left corner which put me on the 7 to the other corner with a nice angle to come off the short rail
for straight in on the 9 in the same pocket as the 7. Ran the rack in 5 shots. Full disclosure: 8 foot table. Wish I had it on video.
As Keith Hernandez once told Elaine: "I hate to brag, but since you asked."
Good story Luke.
On a bar box I made six balls on the break once and was hooked.

Many years ago at a tournament in Phoenix, on 9’ tables, I lost the flip. My opponent made a ball on the break and then played a safety. I kicked two rails making the 1 and ran out. Then it was break run, break run, break run, break 9, break 9, break 9. I won 7-0 in less than ten minutes.

I have never even come close to that in the last 40 years. Good going NyQuil, if I run two now days it’s a great day.

Any time you make a leap forward it's a great thing. Congratulations on the accomplishment.

I have run a five pack in both 8 ball and 9 ball in the past. My high run in 3 cushion is 9. I also ran a 3 pack in 9 ball on Geno Machino one night. He stopped telling me my eyes were out of line after that.. Kind of a funny at the moment. No disrespect for Geno, he is a good guy!

Congrats to the OP, keep at it more will come if you practice with purpose!

Best I ever did was running 3 games in a row from the break. 9 ball, then 8 ball, then 9 ball again. I was playing more at that time then ever before or after.
Other than that one time, it was just an occasional table run maybe from the break maybe not.

Very nice! I'll get there some day. 3 is my next target.

Rotation is the way to go. The best way to improve. No two layouts will be the same.makes you think more. 9 ball Can get very repetitive.
I agree. To be honest if I am playing against someone I prefer 8 ball. When my pool buddy comes over we play 8 ball exclusively. I just find 9 ball better for solo play.

I know this is a very easy feat for many players on this forum, but I finally ran back to back 9 ball racks. I have been playing consistently since June of last year. I was so close to three in a row I missed one ball when I got froze on the short rail headed up table and that ended my streak. I ran the rest out without issue. Just curious for you average players what's your best run been?
At age 65, all break-and-runs are nice and back-to-back break-and-runs are now rare for me. I somehow did a 3-pack in a tournament four or five years ago, and I’m guessing my best when I was considerably younger was likely a 4-pack in 9-ball and maybe a 5 or 6-pack in 8-ball, all on 9 foot tables.

Any consecutive games run on a table smaller than a 9-foot table I wouldn’t count, and I would not count any PR consecutive racks run unless it occurred in either a tournament match or a $ matchup. I assume some may disagree with my opinion on that.

Running 4-6 in a row has to be a great feeling. It's not easy that's for sure.

While I never had any big time meaningful records in pool. I did have one accomplishment I was proud of.

I used to shoot spot shots starting from the side pocket and then moving back ½ diamond usually 15 balls and back and 15 and back. Simple. Left to right, right to left.

The reason was 2 fold this was back when spot there 9 ball in hand behind the line was the rule. So the spot shot had more value as it could be match ball or at a critical point in the match.

Anyways I also would practice all other aspects of pool during this drill as one should in any drill. Stepping into the shot, lining up, pre-shot routine, aiming everything.

One night on a Murry table with huge pockets at 3-4am I was working on this. Things were going good as I was playing 50 hours a week at the time and was dialed in pretty good.

So my friend Randy started spotting the OB for me. Saves time and keeps me in the groove better.

Anyways I ran 53 spot shots without a miss. From the head string about 5”-6” in from the rail shooting them left to right. My heart was beating at 50. At 54 I just missed-not sure why.

That’s my best hi run anything in pool

I’ve always been proud of that. On 4” pockets years later as a better player, sporting my own I ran in the mid 30’s lots of times-never topped 40. Having a spotter and huge pockets helped a lot.

Funny thing is I can’t shoot as many in a row right to left and I can left to right. Now that I’m not in action-doesn’t matter. Which is why I always break towards the right pocket when facing the table when playing 1P. Big edge for me.

Best
Fatboy

Start playing the ghost.
Practice your break, controlling the 1 and cueball while making the wing ball.

You will soon be running out more often.

I will never play as good as I once did. Dont have thedrive. When I ran 7 on a 5 inch pocket gold crown for a $10 set, all my practice was humiliating the ghost on my home table and working the break.

It gets your mind set to runout to close sets.
