I scored a bunch of Southeastern Mahogany Pod Tree(about 1200lbs) while at our family place in Bradenton, Florida a couple of years ago. It is now dry and the first project has been completed. A friend of mine has an amazing woodshop here in Toledo and I am blessed to spend time there. The lessons I am learning are so valuable, I would not give any of it away to just anyone..... This bowl is the beginning of more to come. I am amazed by the quality, color and finish of this Turned Wooden Bowl. I am planning some projects with my friend and we are going to make some awesome household items for our family.

Do any of you do stuff like this that works on pool tables? players too?!! Hope to hear about and see some cool stuff. I see how many of you have WOODSHOPS!! Show me your passion!!!

P.s. I did not turn this, I am working on learning still My buddy is AMAZING AT THIS and sells his pieces for high dollars!

Tell me that's not the first serious turning you have done?
(This is Apr 1?)
If this is not a joke, you must have some prior experience.
The form is elegant, light, and would not be an easy project for someone (most people) without a lot of practice and mistakes.
Or are you just a natural???

Even guys who have the craft down, often don't have a good eye for form & proportion.
It appears that you do.

Per your Q, you know i'm a woodwhacker; but not much of a turner. Never found much call for it and personally don't seem to have talent in that direction. But i know what it takes and can appreciate it.

I find turning to be a very messy undertaking. The results can be beautiful, but sweeping up is not.

Having said that I do a little on my metal lathe. Here is a small project I did a few years back, a bit of custom trim to finish off a tele-post after replacing the flooring (and removing some ugly casing that was over the post). It started as interlocking two-layer hexagon that was installed by gluing it on the post.

Long time woodturner here. Get more enjoyment out of teaching than turning now. Nice piece of wood and form. The two most common mistakes of woodrurners is rushing the finishing, and form/composition. I've had my stuff displayed in many galleries and a few national exhibits. Winding down now, but will probably bring some stuff to a couple of galleries by our summer place to make room in the house. Also makes great wedding, christmas, and overall gifts. I'll take a few pics of my woodturning section of my shop tomorrow. It's really hard letting go of good pieces at times. Almost easier giving them away for gifts. Turning becomes somewhat easy after time, it's the proper finish and form that makes a great turning.

lol ... that was a 60 yo lathe, now sold to a farmer to the south of me. Haven't turned any wood on my new-to-me Myford ML7 but might this weekend to make a bit to do some engine-turning on the spherometer.

Dave <-- thinks Trent meant to quote coolidge and his picture of unused machinery

Here is a little piece of cherry I did the other day. Should take a better picture of it. Also a pic of the woodturning area in my shop. There is three racks of wood in the background. Half raw wood, half rough turned. I'll look for some more turning pics.
