I thought Thorpe was on a ban?

Yes, Earl is one of the people who could be sued by Billy successfully if he decides to do so. It is a FACT that Billy is not on USADA sanctions list. Period!
https://www.usada.org/news/sanctions/
Anybody can get sued by anybody. Doesn’t mean they will sue or would win. Us railbirds only have a limited perspective. Who knows the situation. Maybe Billy thought he was banned and said so to Earl. Maybe Earl made the whole thing up. How are we to know? It’s fun to speculate but unless Billy does sue someone (highly doubtful) then this is all just a thought experiment.

The USADA site is a useful resource to be aware of. Makes you wonder why Billy didn’t go to events. From the Cue It Up podcast (and the website) it sounds like Billy was never given a punishment. Makes you wonder what made him sit out events. Just a bad assumption on his part or maybe an official letter that said he may be required to forfeit any winnings if a ruling was made. That’s an area of speculation that intrigues me.

To set things straight - I dont like Billy for couple of reasons (I wont go into details) but I REALLY hate when people accuse anyone of something they didnt do..Billy allegedly failing doping test being the perfect example. And yes, the whole situation makes you wonder what actually has happened with Billy not playing in several events. I got some ideas but public forum is definitely not the place to discuss them..

I agree. Maybe do some Googling on the requirements for proving libel against public forum commentators before making accusations against posters here.

You’re always welcome to choose not to discuss whatever you wish. But he had made himself a public figure in the billiards industry. People are going to talk about his situation (and certainly his eligibility for Mosconi Cup or other other world championships). Earl’s post was all I had to go on but based on circumstances it seemed legit. Sounds like Billy didn’t speak on the matter but he could have. He’s not obligated to but if he had it would have cleared anything and everything. So if fans on AZB are discussing his situation, I’m not seeing any impropriety in any capacity here. That’s what fans do. They discuss their sport and it’s athletes.

in what third world country do they still give a shit about weed? i guess i've been amongst civilized people here in colorado for too long, but man i'm just trying to imagine ANYBODY these days with their nose in the air trying to find somebody smoking weed and "bust" them for it. absolutely insane.

I was disgusted when they barred Sha'carri Richardson from the Olympics for smoking weed on her own time.

"Rules are rules" is something that Nazis and Stalinists said, and it is as absurd as saying "water is water" or "numbers are numbers."

When rules are stupid and unjust, they should be ignored, and the offense should be pardoned, until the stupid rules are changed. Even better, the stupid rules should be changed immediately. In the case of the IOC, I think the IOC should be disbanded and replaced with a less fascist, more rational governing body that is focused on performance-enhancing drugs, and isn't trying to be the world's lifestyle police.

Imagine if you were alive after the Dredd Scott Decision was passed, and a slave came onto your property, and so you called the police to have the slave returned to her owner. When people asked why you did that, you replied "rules are rules!" Or imagine that an out-of-control semi-truck is bearing down on you and your friend, and when you try to jaywalk to get out of the way, your friend grabs you and says "No, we can't jaywalk - rules are rules!"

If they ban Billy for anything it should be those Lee Harvey Oswald haircuts.
Weed in the Olympics should be mandatory. All those athletes running around like nuts,, jumping, skiing, skating, etc. They move too fast, have too slow down, smell the roses/weed.
All pool tourneys, mandatory weed consumption, 5 minute shot clocks.

Regarding cannabis, it’s ironic because the US played a big role in getting it on the prohibited list originally. But it seems it is likely to be reconsidered this year.

Congratulations to Billy Thorpe for winning her six straight WPBA event! Billy outscored her opponents by the amazing score of 248 racks to 4 on her amazing run. Be sure to congratulate this talented and beautiful young lady on her absolutely astonishing accomplishments!

Sadly, they kept it banned for all of 2022.

If they're so clueless about scientific research that they need to do a new "scientific review" of cannabis in 2022, perhaps they're unqualified for the job they've been given, but hopefully they'll get a clue one of these days, although I'm not holding my breath.

Anything worth being done is worth doing as slowly and bureaucratically as possible.

Most of the world?

I know this is a US site, but (rightly or wrongly) the majority of the world does not (currently) agree with the US on this...for starters didn't you guys only agree to legalise it on a federal level yesterday (if I'm understanding things correctly)?

That may of course change, but even across (most of) the more liberal European countries its illegal (with of course varying degrees of enforcement).

Elite athletes are banned from taking a ton of legal stuff, even some basic painkillers could result in a multi-year ban, so its hardly like they singled her out to make a point!

As for the IOC being not fit for purpose...well yeah that's fair for multiple reasons!

Agreed. Keep the IOC out of pool. That's all we need.... turn the billiard world into another version of a home owners association.

The structure of the WPA doesn't make any sense to me, but I suppose if enough of us join the BCA we could have control over the US representative on the WPA board.

I'm not directing this at you, but the people who want to imprison people for smoking weed are summed up by Mr. Mackey's landlord in a South Park episode: Mr. Mackey is (wrongly) accused of marijuana possession, and when he goes home his landlord, dressed in overalls and no t-shirt, starts throwing rocks at him, yelling something like "Why do you need to smoke marijuana? Look at me! I don't smoke weed, and I'm fine!" while throwing rocks.

It really sums up the insanity of such a harsh punishment for such a mild drug. If not smoking weed makes you want to throw people in cages for smoking weed, maybe you should smoke some weed and chill out. (again, not you specifically - just people in general).

Marijuana bad, m'kay, but alcohol is much much worse, and alcohol is only illegal in strictly Muslim countries.

If you let bureaucrats and governments strip people of their freedoms for dumb reasons, don't be shocked if it happens to you too. You gotta fight for your right to party. :)

I agree with you on both of those points.

I just don't think that any governing body should legislate lifestyle beyond what is necessary. In sports, I think that performance-enhancing substances that present health risks should be banned, while anything healthy or anything that does not enhance performance should not be banned. Even drug-testing for steroids and whatnot is intrusive enough - that shouldn't give a governing authority carte blanche to get into the athlete's personal life and legislate how that athlete lives his or her life.
