Correct. He needs to tighten up the gap between the points in the forearm. Until he makes the N7 without the gap between the outer veneers of the points, it really doesn’t look like a true replica of the TCOM cue.
Yeah, I liked the book more, but the movie was fun too. Nothing against Tom Cruise, but I wonder what John Turturro would have brought to the role of Vince. His talent seemed wasted on the role of Julian.Tevish wrote the Color of Money, it's a great book. However, there's no Vince in it anywhere. And it's a heck of a book, way better than the movie.
Tevis wrote several good ones, not all about pool:Tevish wrote the Color of Money, it's a great book.
Free money for Joss. They already build very similar cues, so why not cash in or out...For those of you into such things, Dan Janes finally gave in and built a duplicate after years of saying he would never build one to the same specs. It’s at the SBE and can be yours for $2200 if it’s not already sold.
I think the gap and the curly maple are two glaring differences. He needs to tighten up the gap between the points in the forearm. Until he makes the N7 without the gap between the outer veneers of the points, it really doesn’t look like a true replica of the TCOM cue.
Was thinking of Jackie Gleason, the difference he would have made. More along the story of the original Hustler.Yeah, I liked the book more, but the movie was fun too. Nothing against Tom Cruise, but I wonder what John Turturro would have brought to the role of Vince. His talent seemed wasted on the rule of Julian.
The Queens Gambit turned into an awesome TV show as well.Tevis wrote several good ones, not all about pool:
A few were made into movies.
- The Hustler. Harper & Row. 1959.
- The Man Who Fell to Earth. Gold Medal Books. 1963. Reprint: Del Rey Impact, 1999.
- Mockingbird. 1980. Reprint: Del Rey Impact, 1999.
- The Steps of the Sun. 1983.
- The Queen's Gambit. 1983.
- The Color of Money. 1984.
He also wrote 25-30 published short stories.

The "Balabushka" in TCOM was made by Joss. I was under the impression that the Joss N7 cue was a replica, based the webpage's description of it as "the same style cue we made for the 1986 classic movie 'The Color of Money.'" But now I understand "same style" doesn't mean exact replica in the case of the N7.It's odd to read the pros and cons of how the cue looks, aesthetically speaking. Most pro players like the way a cue feels more so than how it looks. You can have a good-looking cue, but if it doesn't have that "hit," the cue is no good, no matter how pretty it is.
The cue in the movie, I think, was a Schon. Maybe a McDermott, but it was one of those for sure, not a Babushka.
Cruise was perfect for Vincent. I can't imagine any other actor from that time pulling it off as well. "Doom", dancing to "werewolves in London", Getting in the scrap with the old guy with the tracheotomy...the way the character was written, you needed a naive, goofy, screwball.Cruise=
Turturro=great for COM and should have had the Cruise roll in the movie.
Floyd should have had Turturro’s but part, and a bit more camera time.

Cruise did well in those 2 scenes and it was great for pool “outside the box office” having TC as the lead character of the movie.Cruise was perfect for Vincent. Turturro should have definitely gotten more screen time and character development. I would love to know what led to the tension between he and EDDIE....
No doubt about that. Aside from the stunt work, I can't stomach him as Reacher or in any M:I movie...Cruise did well in those 2 scenes and it was great for pool “outside the box office” having TC as the lead character of the movie.
I just don’t like his arrogance that is in every movie he is in. He has a bad case of short man’s disease

Joss. That’s what this thread is all about. It's odd to read the pros and cons of how the cue looks, aesthetically speaking. Most pro players like the way a cue feels more so than how it looks.
