Break-n-Run pot ??

Bobby Chamberlain made a helluva runout in even even more of a helluva environment for five figures when we were little. Story is on the Azb somewhere.

I bet I've hit 20+ for 200- 800...and none had a wiggle out early clause either. Hadta shoot all them nuggets in the holes.

10 ball. We pay $5 a ticket, no limit for number of tickets. If person gets a ball they can keep the money or continue knowing that a miss means 0 money. If breaks come dry we just keep drawing until somebody wins something. But minimum we have 2 draws if there is still money in the pot.
Sometimes, the pot grows to few thousand dollars. Guys enter as splitting teams and buy lots of tickets.

The way we did it, 25% of the pot was saved for next week so if there was a runout the pot had seed money next week.

Unlimited tickets per person.
One ticket for a dollar.
5 bought 7.
10 bought 20.
One draw per night. Person who purchased ticket has to shoot.

Switching to the sliding ticket per dollar scale dramatically upped sales.

I've also seen places with rules about new people. If you have not played in the tourney before you only get 1/2 the prize money. Here in Jax, one Sunday tourney had a main pot of $10,000 and a second pot of a about $1,400 (Qball). For some reason, they suspended their Sunday tourney and gave all the raffle money away just before Christmas. (They pulled tickets until the money was gone).

Anybody play in or run one of these? What's the format as to entry, pay-out and rules? TIA for any info.
We do our break and run differently than any other poolroom I’ve heard of, coinciding with our Monday night handicapped 9-ball tournaments.

All tournament players who pay a $5 B&R entry are guaranteed a shot at it, which they all really like. The difficulty of the B&R varies depending on which one of the five handicap rankings the player falls in, in order to try to give everyone a fair chance, even though the highest ranked players still usually end up winning the majority of the time.

Highest ranked players have to execute a complete 10-ball B&R on our 4-1/8 inch pocket toughest table.

Lowest ranked players have to complete a 9-ball B&R on our most forgiving 4-3/4” pocket tables, and 2 misses during the run are allowed for them - failure to pocket a ball on the break counts as one of those two misses.

The other three rankings fall somewhere in between those two extremes in terms of their B&R requirements.

This format seems to work very well and be very popular for our players - knowing that everyone who ponies up their $5 will get a shot at it as opposed to the very long shot chance that their name will be drawn for an attempt.

Winners win 80% of the total pot, with 20% being carried over to start the pot for the following week. If there are multiple winners in the same week, they split the 80%, and that has happened once.

Haha. Well I was 27 years old when I cracked that pot at The Plaza biker bar. There was 2 tickets drawn. Mine was first and Calhoon's was 2nd so if I didn't break and run out Calhoon probably would have done. 8 days later i hit the pot at Royal Billiards and then 2 weeks later at Nick's country bar. 14k in 3 racks was fun and 3 out 3 was great. I'm glad I got out of that rough biker bar alive. I did buy everyone a beer so i guess that helped lol

Our local tournament does a 10 ball, can stop any time and take a payout of whatever built up. The first ever I got drawn, ran 7 balls and got stuck. Pot was only like $60 a ball though. Nice night but a buddy just ran it out at $170 a ball, alot better night LoL. Tournament I'm going to Friday is something like $580 a ball, that'd be a great night to run out

I still remember that moment's scene. that was a tough out for many reasons.

This is what we do in league. 10 ball so x/10 $ per ball. You can stop anytime you like, but if you continue and miss, you lose it all.

Tickets are sold each week. $10 buys you seven tickets.

One ticket is drawn. If the player breaks dry, one more ticket is drawn that is worth half of the amount of the first attempt. If that player breaks dry, it all carries over to the following week.

The pot accumulates until the end of the session. On the final night of the session, tickets are drawn and people play until the part is completely depleted.

Ticket sales from the final night then carryover and establish the starting pot for the next session.

The pot can get up to five or $6000 on occasion. Only league players can participate. Lots of fun…
Our league format is similar. One attempt, No option to quit, but you get the money per ball you sink no matter what. Bnr is not required, just potting a ball. Break dry, all of it transferred to the next week.

End of session, Pot is completely depleted with nothing transferred to the next session. So last day everyone buys in and the pot regularly hits 5k on the last night. All money goes back to the players. They go down the ticket list until no money left.

Low level players also get a second break.
