SNOOKER IS LIKE ONEPOCKET

Been thinking the same thing for a long time.
The difference for me is Snooker is more interesting to watch.
I don't fall asleep watching it.

One Pocket and 3Cushion put me out quick like watching golf or bowling.
I could watch 3C all day, the same as snooker. Pool, I really only like watching 14.1. The other games are either hacky sack, or watching paint dry.

i just finished watching a few rounds....i mean sessions... of the world championships
congratulations to ronnie for winning his 7th
i have never played it and dont know all the rules
but from watching the little bit i did it reminded me of onepocket and here is why
there were a lot of safety play
until someone made a mistake or decided to pull the trigger on a "long pot"
those long pots looked me like shots from new york city to los angeles..... 😂
pulling the trigger was great reward or often sell out
as both ronnie and trump were capable of centuries if they got a good start
also going from red to black and red to black etc. was often like doing the L drill which is a great onepocket drill
anyway
you all may think i am crazy but as a one pocket nut
that was my impression
(i also saw a similarity to straight pool but that will have to have its own thread)
Yes, there’s a multitude of similarities in defensive moves between 1P & snooker as well as 14.1 & strategically breaking apart the stack.
Glad I’m not the only one who sees them.

But there are just as many differences, the most obvious being table size, the directional cloth and rounded pocket corners which changes what can & can't be made on a snooker table v’s pool table.

Happy snooker watching!

lol, snooker like 1pocket?!

Not even close.

Sure they are-kinda.

Who beats who to the shot is what the OP is comparing in1P & snooker.

Sometimes taking on a high risk shot is necessary to beat the other guy to the shot in 1P or a long pot in snooker.

Let’s go deeper. They are both score based games. In 1P if your up 5 balls to 0 you tend to move balls up table to protect your score-you know “playing the score”. Same thing in snooker if your up 40-0 and there’s 6 reds in a cluster you might not open them up aggressively. Or in a safe shot if the score is close putting one of the colors off it’s spot near the cushion to protect your lead is another “in game tactic” to protect your lead. So they share tactics that rotation pool doesn’t have.

Also sometimes the offense ends with a funny roll and you have to play safe thus ending the inning, but this is common in most cue sports. However snooker & 1P share that as well.

The games are totally different that’s clear. But some of the tactics overlap-which was the spirit and intent of the OP.

That’s all for now

I see the 8 ball similar in hiding white rock behind a color. The small massage of the full rack of reds resemblance to straight pool and the red color red color sequence limits shot choice again makes me think of 8 ball. Straight pool is good practice for 8 ball.
After spending a lot of time watching snooker, one pocket and banks are the only pool games I find interesting on YouTube.

All the cuesports disciplines resemble, in one way or another, all of the other disciplines.
Safeties are an integral part of all games.
Not uncommon for a good safety to lead to a win in any off the disciplines.
Safeties are used in 3 cushion too but most are not aware of that.

I guess they are completely different in the sense that one of them is vastly superior to the other 😝

Just checking: Don't want to send the text ment for wife to mother....Whew, once was enough. Besides, "you ain't my mother".
Weather report. Windy as well this part of the Arizona desert. So I am on inclement weather program. Besides snooker and one pocket are good. Right?😉

Could someone ask the statistics Person 😉:
Is there a record for Last word? You know I guess The Thread Killer, maybe there should be a statistics in there somewhere.🤷
Not sure if it is a good or bad thing.
Ronnie won't persuit of records do.

I have to agree with Lou, games are totally different strategies, position play, safety play, all different. You could actually win in snooker without pocketing (er, potting), a single ball.
