how are ya'll doing in league ?

How soon after matches does your LOs update the results?

Ours usually update on Saturdays, but for some reason they haven't scored my Wed. night 8 ball match yet. They DID score the 9 ball match, which is odd since it's a double jeopardy league.
usually takes a week for the apa to update
bca game results go in the second you send in the scores through the scorekeeper app, and your rating updates by next morning

In APA Usually by Thursday. Sometimes sooner. Sometimes later. Usually by Thursday. Which is 4 days from when games were played in this case

I've been working hard on the wrong shot thing. It helped playing with a strong 9 ball player because it let me see the routes. Most times you can play shape to simply go one rail for the next shot. 1 rail with a rolling cue ball is much easier than the crazy draw/stun stuff I used to default to.

If you need to go 2 or more rails, it's much easier with follow too! 😅

I am a firm believer in - if you want to be the best you have to act like the best - once I parlayed that into pool I started to really pay attention to pro matches and watching the patterns they played. That, along with some intense practice, propelled my game exponentially in about a 1 year period.

And agree on the follow. For decades I was a draw guy, and still prefer it if there are options, but, I now follow the rule of "draw the crowd, follow the money" - i.e. if you want to be fancy and show off then keep drawing the ball, if you want to start winning then learn how to properly follow. Following is a much more controlled action - in my opinion.

THANK YOU
i stopped drawing as much a few yrs back and just push and stun more often, and i stopped missing alot of balls. and i keep seeing and telling a team mate stop all that damn drawing already, following is so much easier to control and be accurate on position for most league players like us

I learned that back in the early 2000's but then quit in 2004, when I got back into it in 2014 I really started focusing on it and it was a game changing adjustment.

Well you did come on here and basically told a forum full of mostly helpful pool junkies to F off. It would have been very easy to just never log in, but you felt the need to come and make a "F U" post for some reason.

As a coach, there are many reasons not to practice in the rain. Tears the field up, chance for injury goes way up, maybe there was lightning in the area, maybe he realizes that kids soccer is supposed to be a fun game, and making them practice in the rain may not be very much fun. Either way, he is the coach. You questioned his decision making on a group chat. Most coaches would cut you from the chat and ban you from practices...

Keep banking the 7 with shape at 95%. I agree that pool at its most fundamental is not a team sport. Not everyone is wired for team competition. Good luck, sir.
Hey sorry. I deleted the f u post. The reason for it though was those pool junkies don’t accommodate lesser players or some players starting out and it gets old pretty fast. When you sign up for AZB it’s for all skill level players. There is nothing saying otherwise. Some players can’t do it “the way” they should yet or don’t do things the same as some of the better players and get ridiculed for it. That’s not right in my opinion. Where are their titles at?

9 ball-twice! That’s not why I quit though. I played ok. It’s a DJ league and my captain screwed me over.

You need 10 matches in for citywide and for any of the individual tournaments they run. In 8 I only have 7. I had mentioned it to him a few times. Starting over a month ago that I needed my 10. Plus I’m going on vacation the last week of session before qualifiers. He said don’t worry. So last week came-no 8. This week came. We played two matches-no 8 for me. I won’t get my 10 in even with qualifiers now. So I quit.

Then after the fact I hear they gave me a ghost match in 8. Well I quit and I guess both teams will be disqualified once I let the division rep know I didn’t play that match. Felt good to say f APA and feel the same about AZB.

I like metaphors. AZB is like my kids’ soccer league. There was a little bit of rain Thursday and their coach cancelled practice. Their team isn’t very good. So I send in the group text “did you see the last 2 games? I think the kids could use the practice and a little mud won’t kill them”. In response I get “do you want to be a coach?” I thought it was a serious question. So I say “I wouldn’t be opposed to that”. In return to that response I get called an asshole right on group text by the coach. All because I said I think they should practice in the drizzle which they should, and nobody who agreed spoke up.

I like a lot of the posters here, but really F everyone this week. It’s been a doozy!

I'd be pretty frustrated with that situation too, sounds like a crappy captain. Hopefully your week turns around, there's still time for good things to happen. 🙂

LOL, a 3AM post saying F everyone.

You are not long for the AZB world ;)

No worries. Realizing a couple of things might help:

A). I certainly don't want to speak for anyone, but many of these guys are old school pool hall guys, where you had to pay for advice/tips/tricks by endlessly racking after getting your brains beat in rack after rack. You either learned to play better or you continued being a rack boy.

Somebody fresh off of the street that walks into a poolhall and goes straight up to the big dog and says, "show me how you aim", or "how do you shoot this shot", would likely get invited to play some "cheap" and by the time they lost their roll, would have a pretty good idea how a certain shot should be played. Many of the old school guys treat the forum like the pool hall. Bustin balls and getting off the occasional zinger are just ways to initiate new guys.

B). Everyone here is at least shortstop level. I am exaggerating, of course, but that is one of the beauties of an anonymous forum, you can be whatever you want. To be sure, there are some killers on here, some legit pro's, but not too many like me willing to admit they are a plain old APA 6/8 who has trouble recognizing patterns, occasionally misses even with BIH, and lowers themselves to playing on "toy tables".

C). Many of these folks have been around since the early days of forums. They have scene every scammer, hustler, shark, and pool know it all come and go. They have been in and survived flame wars, Bonus ball, the IPT, and every other drama that has hit the scene. I decided before I ever joined to lurk for months and get a feel for the place, Heck even now I only average about 1.2 posts per day, just because there is so much to learn on here I am too busy reading.

Give it another chance. Where else can you interact with legends such as Jay Helfert, Bob Jewett, Dr. Dave, Billy Incardona, and on and on?

I didn't do too hot at league. I only won 1 match of 3. On the bright side our team won 1st place for the season and I think we were all in the top 5 players (unless my 2 losses pushed me lower).

Any idea why only one match from a given night of league wouldn’t get scored?

Looking at the APA app, it shows that every other match in Wed night league got scored except my team’s 8 ball match.

My team and the team we played are highlighted yellow in the standings and it says “Week 13” for both of us while everyone else is on Week 14.

It's possible the LO is behind in entering the scores?

Maaaaybe but every other match was scored by Saturday evening. It’s like he just forgot to score this one particular match.

Everyone of your team's matches were scored or everyone of the entire league matches were scored? It's also possible they are trying to figure out what the score sheet says, I've seen that happen before.

I would just text/call the LO and ask.

Finally had a "good" night... beat a SL6 4-1 tonight. Admittedly, I got one cheaply (8 on the break, and almost got a second right after, went off the point, lol) but I managed the table better than I had the previous few weeks. Far from perfect, but encouraging.

Yeah, every match from last week has been scored except the 8 ball match my team played. I played around in the APA app and couldn't find any from last week that weren't scored, including matches played at other pool rooms/bars in the area. We are currently tied for 3rd place and the session ends next week, so we need all the points we can get to make playoffs.

Can you verify the scores were submitted? I am not a LO but assume both teams need to submit and if everybody else was scored it looks like your match did not make it into the bucket. I am sure if results are missing this will be resolved before the session totals are final.

The last 2 weeks I made 2.... 4 ball runs to win my match, against some really damn good players. The last 2 weeks we beat the #1 ranked team in our division, and lost to the #2 ranked team by a point. Tonight I found out my team made the playoffs via wildcard. We are in last place, but improved from last session by 28 points. Thats a huge improvement, proud of my team.
The run continues: I beat a L5 and my team advanced against the #2 ranked team in our division 7-1. Best 8 games I have played in my life.

I had 8 ball tri cups yesterday. We had a bye the first round and the second round started out bad. Real bad .

I threw a 3 and they countered with a 4. They won 3-0 for a 3-0 score. They threw another 4 and i countered with a 4. They won 3-0 for another 3-0 score.

So they are up 6-0 and i am thinking it dont look good and i need to throw my 7. He is in a a 9 ball singles match though and as luck would have it son was our opponent's 7 so i threw myself. They countered with a 5 and i won 4-1 for a 2-0 win. Well both 7 's are back so they throw their 7 and i counter with our 7.

Our 7 wins 5-3 for a 2-0 win bur we are still down 6-4. I throw a 4 and all they have in order to meet handicap is a 2. My 4 wins 4-0 for a 3-0 score and we win the match 7-6. What a comeback after being down 6-0.

So now comes the 3rd round and we are in the finals. I was only familiar with one guy on the opposing team and was a lil concerned sfter hearing they won their last round in only 3 matches.

They threw their highest rated player. A 6 and i countered with out 7. Our 7 won 5-2 for a 2-0 score. I threw myself and they countered with a 5. I won 4 1 for a 2 -0 score. So we are up 4 -0.

They throw a 5 and i counter with a 4. They win 4-1 for a 2-0 score. I throw my other 4 and they throw a 4 and they win 3-1 for a 2-0 score. So we are tied 4-4 going into the last match.

They throw a 3 and i am faced with a real dilemna . i only have two 3's available to throw..
Do i throw my best 3 who had played the previous round or do i throw my weakest 3 who has not played yet. ?

Last chance to qualify for this years cities and i really want to win. First thought is my best 3....the hell with it. We gonna win as a team or lose as a team. So i throw my weakest 3.

Damn if she didnt win 2 -0 for a 3-0 score and we win 7-4. For the first time ever she didnt get all bent out of shape for having time outs called on her. I gave her 2 and our 7 gave her 2.

After wards she said ahe was a nervous wreck during the match. I said that made 2 of us and we started laughing.

I told my team i was darn proud of every one and that this 3 was our mvp for the day. She was grinning ear to ear.

We have 9 ball tri cups next week and i highly doubt if i play due to handicap limits. Either i or my 8 will have to sit after our 1 dropped off the team and i had rather it be me sitting.
