Why is it fair, that 9 ball is played on grey/gray cloth, but Snooker must and is Always played on Green cloth?

Fat Boy I'd enjoy your thoughts.

Where's my orange, oh yeah it's in a container in the frig ;).

Nowt to do with fairness. Pool already broke with tradition by moving from green to blue - so it's a pretty easy decision to move to grey. Grey works. It works in daylight, it works in bars in low light and it works on TV. It's better than green or blue.

Give snooker time. The cloths will get faster and the color will change (eventually).

Contact Emily Frazier. All this ball/cloth nonsense is her doing.
Grey cloth has been used in English pool for a few years now, and it works. Ironically, English pool was finally moving from green to blue but then pretty quickly discovered grey. Matchroom followed suit.

Grey, might as well be earl grey. Our British overlords have once again taxed us beyond our limits.
It's time to rise up.
Make pool green again?
I think 40 years ago the cloth would have been marketed as "Shark Gray" or "Shark Grey" depending on the territory, 20 years ago it would have been a universal "Shark Gray" but now it's a worldwide "Shark Grey" possibly because of Matchroom but I'm not sure.

It doesn't matter a hoot - the spelling variations are usages rather than rules. Brits now guess when they used to suppose, and the next generation of billiard players in the US will talk about potting rather than pocketing.

Say it ain't so

The IPA are still using the worsted powder blue Strachan 861, but, yes, Ultimate Pool have been using the napped grey Strachan Superfine since the Taom Shootouts, I believe.

All in all, I don't like seeing any colour other than olive green on a snooker table. English pool is a different story. Powder blue looks amazing with the Pro Cup balls.

I'm a huge fan of Powder Blue, it looks good in any light. Prefer it to Grey, but prefer Grey to Tournament Blue.

Ultimate Pool yes are using a "napped" cloth but it is pretty fast - I think napped is on the way out.

I wouldn't say napped is on its way out at all. The only organisation using worsted cloth for events are the IPA, and even then, Ultimate Pool seems to be edging them out on the up and up, and I can't see them changing the Superfine out for a worsted substitute.

I can. It's actually a smaller change than previous changes.

O'sullivan plays on Green, The PGA has green putting surfaces, the sport of 9 ball should be green.

The grey cloth doesn't differentiate the play surface from it's surroundings.

The grey cloth does the best job of differentiating the playing surface from the balls on top of it. The surrounding arena and even the table bodies/rails could be made any color you like if you'd prefer even more contrast. If you look at it without any prior expectations (which is the whole point, given that Matchroom is trying to attract new fans), it looks good. There's no need to bring snooker, golf, or any other random sports into this. The idea should be that pool is its own thing.

I would argue that like golf, green is the color of the lawn and the history of all billiard and pocket billiard tables.

Also, I noticed that the grey/gray shows darkish wipe marks, from hands, oil etc on the play surface when using the overhead camera shot.

It's hard for me to believe, that making the play surface grey, would attract new fans.

That statement
seems a little off cue.
