End of the WPA Russia Ban

Delighted by this. IAs I posted previously, I felt that WCBS would lift the ban in its July meeting, and I applaud this decision, which frees up WPA, BCA, EPBF, etc.

Welcome back to all those who had to endure the ban, but especially to Fedor Gorst, who is sure to be in the conversation for #1 in the world for years to come.

You're right. I should have left it alone. But I will say one more thing... Voting is a civil right. Does that mean Gourst should be allowed to vote in the United States?

That's a good question. That particular civil rights law only prevents discrimination in certain public places (like restaurants or sporting events generally open to the public).

For federal elections, our federal laws say you have to be a US citizen to vote. States (and cities) set their own requirements for state and local elections. I'm not aware of any state allowing non-citizens to vote for state office, but I think some cities might.

Did Gorst complete the mandatory Russian military service? The concern being if he goes back to Europe will he be approached to return for national service.

Great reporting and the podcast with Joey Ryan being back is a treat in addition to the ban lift.

Who's civil rights. Only citizens of the United States have civil rights, and only within the United States.

Human rights on the other hand are another matter.
I think you might be wrong, I think if a person is on US soil they have civil rights. I worked with a kid from Mexico he wasn’t a citizen at the time but he had civil rights he later became a citizen
