I bought one of these on ebay. It arrived in perfect condition but the tip does not have the black pad below it. Are any of these made without the black pad? I am afraid to use it because I believe the shaft might crack. Thank you to anyone who knows about this.

If the ferrule is 3/4" long. It has a 1/4" in the cap to it. The tenon underneath it is only a little longer than a 1/2".
Your safe.

Not many shafts need to use one of those pads, CF ones do when there is very little or no ferrule or has basically a hollowed out ferrule with some softer material inside, OB does it with the wood shafts. Can't really think of any other shaft that has a pad for structural purposes on it. I don't think anything with an actual ferrule comes with a pad.

I had several 1st Gen 314's and no black pad or anything between tip and ferrule....Never had one to crack either..Had a friend that broke with his and it never cracked..
