It's not the same pool game anymore as once was played, pocket billiards all over this world players are putting their chin on or real close to the cue stick and hand on extreme butt of cue in all games... No more the same physical game ? ... Guy

what? People watch people and want to carbon copy them ... if people find what works best for them instead of playing copy cat ... there would be much diverse stances, techniques ect. of course there are so many ways to hold a cue and hit a ball in an accurate way.

It's not the same game, it's better!
I started out banging with a stand up stroke. It was easier to see the cut angles and much easier on the stroking arm. As consistency started to loom as priority one, I saw that that the old style stroke wasn't a very good way to hit the ball. There was too much blind feel and estimation going on and too often you'd have freewheeling failures. I mean total ducks that if they even went, the cue ball would be totally butchered. So I started getting down on the stick; trained through the cramping stages, really looking at the alignment down the stick. It wasn't like I stumbled on it. Most of the guys who could actually shoot were way down on the stick, and now I knew why. That became square one. Non negotiable.

What about this , I'm watching Shaw going for high record, people on this forum are saying that he is very unorthodox and not having any common patterns nothing predictable, not common, Yet Shaw is the one setting the records... No judgment, just record... Guy

It’s just evolution like in any sport or game. Computers changed chess, equipment has changed golf, tennis. Rules changed football.

Nothing ever stays the same. “Everything changes”-a famous pool player told me that about a year ago, we went talking about pool when he said that. We were just talking about life and getting older. He’s around 65ish.

Guy your older than me. Wouldn’t you agree with that? I’m not sure it’s a bad thing or good. But it seems to be accurate.

When I posted on this forum about chin on stick for aiming and shooting, the response for most was No for regular pool games and Yes for snooker, I've been watching 8,9 and 10 pro players and I see all over this world players at time of shot are putting chin on or close to cue... Guy

I wrote a song many years ago after a break up with my girlfriend, this was the intro.
(Seasons change and nothing remains the same.)

Eric go back too the old days, To shoot a gun. Aim from the hip or aim down the barrel, Not the same at all... No comparison two completely different games, Yet we keep comparing the two... To say that the old way wasn't as good as the new ways is foolish... On this forum members seem to like one pocket games... The first one pocket players were just as good as they are today... In the old days the one that aimed down the barrel Died... Guy

It's about putting the balls in the pockets, how it gets done is irrelevant unless it is breaking the current regulations-

That word Irrelevant ( Irrelevant) Is a Bad thing for the pool world... Most players can't even imagine how much bad that word has done... Guy

It may seem that way, but the old players were shooting at bushel baskets compared to today.

Just from my experience I'd say it's about not just accuracy but consistent accuracy. The old way you could be listing a few degrees or a half tip off on the ball and not not know until you butchered something. Down on the stick is a much more stable contraption.
