Well you may be politically correct. But when he and Barb moved to the Springs (and me/wife became close friends), we spent allot of time together....Billy also played on our BCA National winning 8 ball team. Bill also got Kikel off on the right foot. FWIW...since he was here in the west, we all called em Josh West .

nothing 'political' about it. There was JOSS and JossWest.(We called 'em JOSH also. lol) From Baltimore Bill went to Aspen then to Tulsa then back to Colo.Springs. Moved to Austin and ended up in NewMexico, Santa Fe iirc. Wish i'd bought a truckload while he was here in town. ;)

Did you ever see the cue he made with the 4 diamonds in the handle end? 40 yrs ago, he said that cue was worth 5K, the diamonds were raised, set in points. Not a players cue, showpiece. Wonder who has that? Barb might know.

never seen that. Will Prout probably has. Hell, he might own it. The Jerry Wiley box-cue on that card i posted i've hit . Pretty but too heavy.

Very cool pics, thanks for sharing.

My formative teen pool years were in Baltimore/DC/N.Va area in mid/late 80’s, the Joss shop in Towson, MD was 10 min away from my high school. Everyone had Joss or Scruggs cues and I’ve always had an attachment to them. I recently aquired a near perfect all original 1969 ish Joss big pin with natural joint/ferule that was actually a Stroud cue from earliest Joss years when he was playing around with chromed 3/8-10 pins. Shafts are nothing short of spectacular and one of the sweetest hitting cues I’ve had, and a cool piece of Americana.

✌️

I love seeing the pool table in the shop.

Ray Schuler had a billiards table in his shop. I think at one point he won an amateur world title. What a life, building cues and playing billiards.

My brother in law had a Joss. Really liked everything about that cue. He could hit 'em pretty good, RIP.

Just for grins...feeble attempt at colorization. Did not know the woods/wraps, so just left as is. More of a big picture feel than the details.

Nice ivory tusks- I remember the last one that I sold- bought it for a song at a Knights of Columbus auction- no one else there knew what it could be valued, I sold it to a very famous Cue maker- selling price then was $1,000. Several of these cues have ivory joints, etc. - great old photos!- Thanks for sharing!

A lot of people don't know just how good Bill played the game. He was one of if not the best player in Dallas in the '60s. I saw him play in Tulsa around '88 and was very impressed with his 1p game. He played one of the best in town and beat him pretty good.
