Can a short butt cap with hoppe ring be added to a cue that is already finished ? Any info much appreciated

Kat,

Thank you for your responses. The Cue is a totally finished wrapless Cocobola sneaky.. Presently all wood no butt cap. Nothing functional in rea other than a rubber bumper. Could go bumperless or slightly recessed rubber bumper.

I am trying to get away from a refinish as the finish is 'mint and perfect' and this is not a necessary modification or repair

Thanks again for your responses

Definitely do-able. Probably stronger in the long run. You don't have to finish the whole butt but you may see a difference in the finish transition.
True Hoppe style is just polishing a weight bolt.

Best of luck!

It can be quite hard to blend the finish perfectly, different products have different levels of clarity and tint. In most cases though I get a more than satisfying result. As Mr. Webb said, I recommend you use the wide head 3/8-16 bolts, that gives it the right look.

Would advise adding a bumper since the butt cap will be constructed. Depending on the roundness of the cue in the rea of the rings and butt cap and the precision of the cue tech doing the work you may or may not need any finish work other than some sealer over the new pieces. Something you would need to discuss with whoever you choose to do the work.
Sometimes everything goes perfect and sometimes everything goes south. I do a lot of house cue conversions but always for speculaton and never for a specific order ... that way if it goes south it goes in the trash bin with no regrets.

Again, thanks for your responses, ideas and suggestions. Not sure if I was clear. Here is the SP that I am asking about on left. Presently, all wood. I would like to add a set up like cue on right my CAM SP with a short butt cap and thin hoppe.

I might go bumper less ( I have extra chrome bolt ) or use a bumper that fits slightly 'recessed' ..I am not sure about matching it up. That cpould be a problem $$$ I will ot spend to refinish whole cue but do not want it looking like a 'add on' which it is. Thjis was just a Friday night idea.

Have a good week,
kat

Looks nice. The Butt cap is wider than the true Hoppe look but it's in the ball park.
Good luck.

It looks like the weight bolt is drilled and tapped for securing a bumper onto it.
One with the small hole in the center for the screw that holds it on to the butt.
Something like this would be easiest to install.
