Keilwood shaft Snapped

While being sanded Shaft just snapped . It was a very highly birds eye figured shaft .
Has anyone else expienced this . Did the Bird eye figure have anything to do with making it Brittle .

That's the problem with BEM, those voids can be pretty big. I have seen multiple Schon cues break for the same reason.

schon butts, usually about an inch under the joint collar.

Yes , shaft material ,

The grain runs sideways around the eyes, makes the wood very weak to lateral force. I've seen forearms break like this. If the eyes are large, coring is required.
