Turning down a butt

I was cleaning a storage cabinet at home and found an unfinished butt that was constructed in 2008, the cue maker did not finish the cue as it has slight warp. He gave me the butt and I stored it since then. The butt already has the pin and is the butt is 1 mm oversize. I want to finish cue as I have an extra shaft that would fit. Not so keen on sending it to a cue maker as this would most likely be seldom used as it is a plain jane with mac ebony handle, butt sleeve with a maple burl handle. I sanded the butt down using a "DIY" lathe using a hand drill :) I got it to about 0.5mm from the ideal dimensions using 180 and 240 grade sandpaper. From this point on what grades of sandpaper do I use to get it to ideal size and prep it for spray painting using a clear can spray?

Ive been doing 400, then epoxy then clear coat. I fairly new at building Cues so working out my finish ways to get best results but they come out good

Pictures, pictures.
Please
Mac ebony front, cored Maple burl and Mac ebony butt sleeve, I don't recall what was used for the core as this one was made in 2008

Sprayed first coat of spray can clear. Will spray another coat tomorrow, I know I will not get the best results as I just need have a "working" cue. This might be played once or twice as I really enjoy playing with another cue from the same maker, except that one has a Mac ebony front, Paduak handle and Mac ebony butt sleeve.

Were you able to get the warp out with your sanding?
