Saving pool

Not looking to rub anyone the wrong way but I don't understand this idea that pool needs saving. There's plenty of places to play pool and gamble and there's plenty of pool to stream or watch on youtube. It has ups and downs, we all see that when 3 pool halls open and close not too long after.

I don't think it will ever be the spectator sport that golf is, neither will bowling, chess or archery. People that don't golf can get wrapped up in the big tournaments.

Far as a better life for a pro, long as I've been involved it hasn't been a good direction if you want a reliable income. Neither has bowling, chess or archery.

Pool has been worse.

While it can be argued that amateur pool is still healthy, it's hard not to be concerned about how many pool rooms have shut down in the last five or six years.

Pro pool is broken to anyone who thinks its participants should be making the big bucks, but it is not broken for me and others who feel that prize money should track revenue generated by the sport. On the contrary, there's more total added money in tournaments worldwide than ever before, and the earnings of the elite players is growing rapidly.

Haven't see it in the last 5 or 6 years, happened here in the early 2000s. Common consensus back then was that it was poker that dragged away a lot of the players, especially those that liked to gamble. Don't know if that was the reason but it matched the rise in poker around here.

I'll see your slowass Kaci, and raise you an Okumura...

20min mark for a 3min deliberation on a shot he could see. And that wasn't the longest I saw from him either.

The shot clock was made for guys like that! That was painful to watch!

Well in his defense in this particular situation earl was on the hill and it seemed like he was just trying to make sure he got to see the next rack, Danny Harriman is pretty brutal to watch play 14.1,the few times I could watch
long game to begin with and he makes it even longer

The main concern I have is that there are so few pool rooms left in most cities I know of. When I moved to Atlanta in 1974 there were at least six nice rooms within a ten minute drive of my house. Now zero. And now there are only three first class pool rooms within a half hour drive of my house. And during this period the metro Atlanta area grew from under one million people to over six million. That is a problem!

I think pool is always going to be an uphill battle as a business. A table with seating for two players takes about 400 square feet and people balk at paying 20/hour to use it while they sip ice water. As bar or dining that space would generate 20x that.
