Dr Dave for BCA HOF

How does it work in other sports like basketball, baseball or football? Can you nominate a non player into a HOF?
I do agree that Dr Dave contributed enough to pool to be recognized with an award of some kind, but adding him to the HOF will open a path to other non players, and how can you measure their achievements without them winning anything? It's not a popularity award, it's an achievement award.
Please read my response. The Meritorious Service category has been around for quite some time. Some of the inductees include John Wesley Hyatt, Walter Tevis, George Balabushka, Greg Sullivan, the Jansco Brothers, etc.

This thread looks suspicious like women are being left out.

Dianna Hoppe worked the tour trail.

The girl that ran the inside pool mag booth (idk name).

Jasmin does press outside of billiards.
Not sure why I would even bother responding to your mess of a post, but... There are several women in the BCA Hall of Fame.

I love Diana Hoppe, but in the same area of involvement, I would think Billie Billing would go in well before Diana. Shari Stauch as the P&B Executive Editor would be the lead female media personnel if one were to be inducted. But inducting a media person would be somewhat of a conflict of interest as the media are the ones the vote for the HoF in our sports. Other women non-players to consider would be Matchroom's Emily Frazier and CSI's Amy Kane.

Good Point. The professional media billiard awards is separate. Most significant work or contribution is worth noting with the nominee.

Billiard Media Pros are a specialized area.

Karim from Predator puts out great press statements and his numbers document a clear case for his HOF entry.

You're suggesting that Karim Belhaj should be considered for entry in the BCA Hall of Fame for his great press statements? I just want to shout out the color of the 7-ball over and over...

How about most trending social media account within the last 6 months?

The new crowds watch different than the old crowds.

Yes, I think Dr Dave will get in one day. His contributions are very significant and, much like Pat Fleming, he has made learning the game at the highest level accessible through video.

That said, he is one of many deserving of consideration in the meritorious service category and I'd induct somebody like a) George Fels, pool author, journalist and teacher extraordinaire for decades, or b) Mark Griffin, tournament producer, founder of CSI, and head of the BCAPL pool league, and a couple of others before Dave.

That said, I think all of us would celebrate late into the night if Dave got the nod at some point. Around here, Dave is royalty.

A lot of very deserving names, I mean we can go on for hours here when talking about non-players. Is Mingaud in for the leather tip that changed the game to what it is today? Goodyear for improvement to rubber that gave us our rails? Predator for blazing the way in high tech shafts basically creating the modern shaft industry (and for marketing skill) as well as being a sponsor in seemingly every single event and half the pro players?

George Fels, 100% agree, his articles in fact were part of the reason I got interested in pool in a more serious way.

One thing I may not agree with here, someone suggested SJM, while being a HOF worthy fan, not sure if that is a HOF pick. Maybe I am missing some things that were contributed to the overall sport by him, outside of maybe a record for having his face in more pool videos than anyone else LOL. Just going by a pure intellectual thinking here, I'm as big of a fan of SJM as anyone on here, in fact I feel that it's not a real pool video unless SJM is there in the front row :)

SJM was a major part of why the WPBA thrived, as a constant sponsor, and Jennifer Barreta cites SJM as a coach/mentor. Probably not enough, but just wanted to add that to Stu’s CV as I don’t think he’s going to toot his own horn. There’s probably much more that I don’t know about.

I'm flattered by your words, but I have no business being in the discussion. The HOF is for those who've made far greater contributions to the game than I. I'm one of many that is happy to quietly contribute time and money to our sport and I try very hard to do it all in the background.

Dave will get there. Jewett should already be in.

As much as he has contributed to pool, Byrne books in the earlier days, the more scientific approach to things, etc... he's been even more of an important asset to the sport of three cushion being kept alive in the US for decades.

He never toots his own horn, but guys like Bob are the ones who are deserve the respect for actually caring enough about this sport to contribute their time and energy to keep it alive.
