Gold Crown V Feedback/Reviews?

How does everyone feel about the Gold Crown V table? I've been searching the web for reviews but most posts are about the GC I-IV.

For the past year I've been looking for a Gold Crown pool table but I'm tired of waiting. I've only seen two pop up in my large search area: a IV that was in rough shape and I missed out on it, and the other was a III with shimmed pockets (questionable work and I don't like the score counters).

I recently came across a GC V, and although it comes at a premium, I'm strongly considering it. Just want some feedback on it!

Thanks

First owner of a V Tournament Edition. I've had it 4 years, and it's been terrific. Not a single issue or concern. Simonis 860HR.

With clean cloth, balls, chalk, and climate controlled environment I'd say it plays pretty fast. I'm considering a different (slower) cloth next recovering, whatever that may be.

There are a few rooms with 5's around. There's some in Jersey and Atlanta. Not sure if Griffs still has some. Their OK, but I've only played on the bucket tables(n) not the Tournament ones.

I play in a room in Atlanta that has about 10 or 15 new (in 2010) GC5 8 footers. All my life otherwise I played on GC 1-4. The 5 plays exactly the same, always excellent. IMO, it's also the prettiest by far of all the GC's. It would be my first choice of a GC, disregarding pricing. The metal on it has also held up in commercial environments much better than the prior GC1-4 models, that almost always got pitted.

There are not as many 5's out there because by the time they were introduced, most commercial rooms buying tables had went with Diamond instead. So pickings are far fewer than GC1-4, which were very dominant when they were new.

I was in Atlanta two weeks ago. I ended up playing LD some 1P. Man, that guy at 75 years old can play very well.

I played on Nick Varner's GC V down at his store in Owensboro many times. Great playing table. It seemed to be more forgiving for him than it was me the times I have been there..:)

Do you mean JC? Shorter black one pocket player? The age sounds about right. If it's the same guy, I played him when I moved to Atlanta in 2009. He was the first person I played. The guy wore a legit snow mitten on his bridge hand as a cue glove, and proceeded to beat me like a drum. All I remember was thinking to myself how the hell can a guy with a mitten beat me. ha ha ha.

iusedtoberich, you've seen Earl play with every accoutrement available, a snow mitten should be the least weird thing :-)

Super nice black gentleman. My two Atlanta friends said his name is LD. He hangs out by the two Diamonds in the back of Mr. Cues2
