Gold Crown Adventure

A week or so back, I took a scooter adventure to the Western side of Montana. I came home to the East side of the State in a uhaul truck, toting my scooter and early Gold Crown I.

I have started with the metal polishing and preparing the rails to be sent off for modernization and beautification by someone competent.

Anyway, I will post updates as the restoration happens. I am already getting lined out by the RKC! I doubt I would take this on if not for him, azbilliards, and the other posters who've shown their processes and progress on here. I am so stoked, a long-time dream to have a table for me.

Soap and water soak, scrub with barkeepers friend and a stiff brush, palm sander with 800 grit paper, wd-40 and scrub with a scotchbrite pad, then buff with a coarse sponge on a drill numerous times using mothers polish and a thinner polish (I'll look at it later)alternately.

If there was still oxidation spots that wouldn't shine, I would go over them with the wd-40 and scotchbrite and then buff again. There are a few little spots that I will go over again and then do everything again with a fine sponge and finish with polish and a wool buff.

I'm very encouraged and happy with where they are already, though!

Was it the shiny stuff that drew ya in?!?!

This is the polish i'm using

Pool table progress has stopped! This pic was taken 10 feet from the house... I've been too busy running pumps and moving critters for the last few days to do anything on it.... I will start cleaning the rail edges once this water recedes and I get the farm cleaned up, though. Rails are ready to package and ship, but that's a couple trips to town to get it done.

If you’re married, she’s quite tolerant. Random table buy followed by an in ground pool right out the door……… seriously though, good luck with the water and hope you don’t end up with damage. Nailed the polish.

Well, I'm not, but it's worse. I'm the indentured servant of my auntie... I don't have permission to put the table anywhere but my dirty shop.

I'm willing to make concessions on table and cloth color if it can go in the living room (28×17, it's perfect other than too much sunlight), but no luck so far.

Any prayers, incantations, or pool God worship that the interwebz can send up are appreciated.

Let’s be honest though, is she really capable of moving it from where you put it? 😆

Thank you! Glad to share!

I will say it's a messy operation with the buffer and metal polish. I'd have built a containment shield around my vice and wore an apron or something if I was to start it over.
been there for sure, how do your shop walls look?

Nice! Looks like an early GCI as evidenced by the figure 8 nut plates and long extrusions to attach the aprons to the rails. It looks like that table was only recovered 2=3 times in its life. How do the rail tops look? Metal name plate or plastic?

It's plastic, definitely early GC1. Rails are OK, but getting sent in soon for subrail work, modern rubber, threaded inserts, and the two chipped corners on one rail fixed. The rail tops will clean up nice.

Any recommendations on paint sprayers, Rexus? I'm in the sticks and planning on doing the paint myself.

What's your budget and what paint are you planning on spraying?
