APA World Champs!

I wonder how many opponents tried to throw "off" (throwing their lowest players against the SL 7 players and try to make it up with with other matches in their favor)?
I don’t know how they did it but if it was me a 7 wouldn’t play until a 3 won. But I’m going by the old system where each match was worth one point. The scoring system is different these days so I’m not up to date on current strategies

Are you saying all their other players are 3s? If so and after some Fargo name searches, that team should have at least one strong 4 (Laci), one 6 (Gregory) and another solid 4 (Brad).

That's 7, 7, 6, 4, 4, 3, 3, 3. If the actual team SLs are 7, 7, 3, 3, 3, 3, 3, 3 then they are, well we all know what could be said...

Again, I am not an APA player, but I do know that they're not even close to all threes…

If i ever wear a shirt like that please commit me.
Lol I agree. I’m watching it now and would not be wearing that on a national stream but hey they look like they had a lot of fun which is what apa is all about.

If the 7's are as strong as is claimed, I'd be pretty certain to be throwing off on whoever else they play. The most those two 7's can get is 6 points, so you need to take your chances with the three other players

Using your second set of numbers,

7-6-4-3-3 Is a super tough lineup to face.

Yup. This is how i strategerize (yes, I just made that word up). I like to start with my solid 4, if he wins I usually like our chances. Then it's gonna be either me 6 or a strong 5 followed by another decent 4. I like my 7 (FR 658) in the 4th match, as that almost always seals it for us. 4-6-4-7-2 has been good for us in tourneys.

Good job. Leagues in Florida seem to be jammin. Not sure how they compare to other States but in my area they definitely breathe life into local pool rooms

As a 7/9 I generally got thrown off on a lot with their lowest player.
During regular league session, I always try and match up closely, if I can manage it, cuz I feel its better for the players involved. (Especially the 7/9's...they usually wanna play other players their level, at least around here.) But playoffs and higher level tourneys, ya gotta do what makes the most sense and gives you the best chance to win. Calculated gamble...

Honestly I guess I’m a terrible captain when I was. I rarely through down . I wanted that 3 to get a chance to play and have fun but your right in the playoffs you gotta do what ya gotta do.

Exactly. During regular weekly play, I want to win but I want people to enjoy playing pool too. What fun is it for a 2 or 3 to just rack, and maybe kick every so often, when thrown against a 7/9? And what fun is it for the 7/9 to have to beat up on a beginner, cuz if they let that player get a chance, one win in 8-ball is a 2 point swing. Two or three balls in 9-ball can swing the final score 4 points or more.

The 7/9 has to beat up on that beginner, cuz in a throw-off style match-up, it's likely to have another unbalanced match going in the other direction, and ya gotta at least match the score they put up.

I like watching the better players play each other. I think its more impactful to the beginners to see how they play against tough opponents, too.
