I've been meaning to build one for several years. I finally got around to creating my version. I just wasn't pleased with the aesthetics of the ones I have seen made. The measurements are weird and don't jive well with traditional style cues, but this is my solution if you wanna call it that..lol This cue style seems to be a popular topic as of late on here!

I built this as a prototype for me to play with. The cue isn't completed still inlays and finish to be done, but can be played with and I have. I will say it's as solid and plays as well as any of the other cues I've built. I used Alves, Ebony and will have some mop or abalone inlays as well as gold acrylic accent rings. Shaft section has a phenolic insert..3/8-10 mod pins

This might have been posted, but Southwest Airlines is allowing cues on the plane as a carry on.

Thanks, I just didn't care for the way other travel cues were designed aesthetically. The joint I added is just to keep the look of a regular cue.

I suppose you could use anything you could dream up as a case or just a rubber band or two to keep it together..lol Fits nicely in a backpack as well.

The cue balance point is 18 inches from butt cap bottom...inline with most cues, nothing crazy weird one way or the other. Both pins are aluminum.

I took my cue on the plane from Vegas to Houston and there were 7 of us. We also saw other players when we got back to Texas that were changing flights with their cues at other gates. It might be Southwest only, I'll post more info when I fly next week on Frontier.

Interesting to hear. Hopefully it is consistent, given how you have to pack your cue if it cannot be carried on, even if you have a hard case (appropriate outer long box with padding).

This was the first time I tried it and I only did it because I saw a guy putting his cue case in the over head. I'll try it again next week and post the results.

I doubt it.

They are already overwhelmed. Can you imagine if they were required to make exceptions for every carrier?

But if you placed the cue inside the maximum size bag TSA allows as carry-on, from one corner to the extreme opposite, the butt and shaft could be no longer than 27.5 inches. (22"x14"x9")

You’re off a little, 22” is the maximum size allowed according to the airlines. However most don’t check if your carry on looks close. Mine is 23” including the wheels and I haven’t had to check it yet. Spirit airline agents are the pickiest so four results may vary. My bag diagonal measurement is 22”.

You are correct, the measurement is 22". The 24" was a typo.

The math is correct, based on the 22"x14"x9".
If one was so inclinedas to make a custom bag from nylon to these dimensions, 27.5" would fit corner to opposite corner.
 
Screw the inlays, it looks nice how it is, and great for a "travel cue". Now you just need to convince the TSA to allow even those onboard in a carry on without hassle or worry.

They may, but the security checkpoint very likely won't, and those are not part of any airline. If they get past them, it's an oversight to the rules, not something I would count on happening in more than a few cases.
