If your going to be in town for the Texas Open here are a few side hustles:
Shenannigan's on Pond Springs Road has a Friday Night 9-ball tournament and a Saturday 8-ball tournament. They have about a 7or 8 tables. I won my first tournament there and have the certificate to prove it. Fast Eddies on 183/620 is not far from there 2 nine footers and maybe 16 eight footers plus they do a lot of darts. Detours on on Burnet Rd/1325 has a Thursday night 8-ball tournament on its 3 bar boxes. Fast Eddies on Burnet Rd has maybe 20 tables and is next to the Common Interest, one of Austin's more famous Kareoke bar and is in the same strip center as the Nosh and Bevvy Pub which has really good currry. Across the street is Buddy's Place, a true dive bar with 2 bar boxes and occasional live country music. Clicks on Oltorf has NAPA league cash tounaments. A little place in Manor just outside of Austin called Whiskey Girls has a Monday or Tuesday tournament. Eddie's Tavern is the closest pool hall to Skinny Bob's, less than a mile away on IH35 and they have decent burgers. Hutto has a Wednesday night tournament downtown at a little bar called the Hall of Fame tucked in the back of a steakhouse. It is quaint and not many players, usually round robin. Austin is full of dive bars, Deep Eddies has a degree of fame with two bar boxes near the river just off of MOPAC (Loop 1 at Lake Austin Blvd) . On Sunday afternoons, the coolest is place in Austin is Jenny's Little Longhorn on Burnet Rd featuring Chicken Shit Bingo and hotties in skirts and boots. It is Internationally famous and deservedly so! It is a shotgun bar set in a tiny old church and most of the activity goes on in the parking lot but you can hear the live music outside loud and clear, 3-8pm. $112 in your pocket less your generous tip to the band if you buy the right chaicken shit number on your $2 buy-in. Look for Randy's Ice House in Taylor,TX for some old tables in a little dive bar. The VFW in Marble Falls has dirt cheap drinks and 2 bar boxes if your looking for an hours drive through the Hill Country, nice folks there. Close to the center of Austin is The Grand on Airport Blvd. Bar boxes (2), 8 footers (12) and 9 footers(maybe 9). Tables are by the hour but the drinks are cheap. If you go there late at night be sure to eat at Tyson's Tacos on Airport. They sell out of their pork belly tacos quite often but the King George is really good too. Betsy's Billiard down south on William Cannon is Austin's newest pool hall. They feature all 8 foot Diamond tables and replace the Samonis felt frequently. It is a good room. The Warehouse Saloon on Ben White has been around forever and plenty of tables and cheap drinks. I'll nail down some more tounaments if there is any interest. I'm know the main interest is the Texas Open at Skinny Bob's but folks often need a break for the action and want a taste of the local flavor. If you know what you are looking for I may be able to help you out. Austin has a lot to offer but it is losing some of its charm due to the coddleling politics allow petty crimes to persist in many of the more popular tourist areas. There are some good swimming holes around too like Barton Springs and Deep Eddy but I know y'all are only interested in pool.
