I warmed up with Matlock. I noticed he played left handed if I remember right. He seemed like a nice guy. We both had lost a match, went to the losers bracket. I snapped the nine in on the fourth and fifth rack. He gave me the crooked rack. I saw it. I decided not to say anything. I think he did it to stop me from maybe snapping the nine in again. The race was to nine and I was up five to nothing. He ended up winning the match. He told me he couldn't out shoot me and that he had to beat me using defense. I was a good offensive player then but didn't have a lot of experience at defense. It was my first pro tournament. Anyway, that is what happened.
I've given a few really bad racks but didn't notice it until my opponent broke and it was obvious it was a slug rack. I apologized too, but I didn't do it on purpose; I just didn't check well enough. It might be something like that because it's not in Dave's nature to intentionally cheat. My point is, just because he apologized doesn't mean it was intentional.

I broke the rack and I never said anything about it. Then he walked toward me and said " sorry for the crooked rack". I think he did it on purpose.

Na, the kind of guy that would intentional cheat is not that kind of guy that would suddenly grow a conscious and apologize for what he just planned and executed. He could probably just tell from how the balls broke he racked them crooked. Really, I have never known him to cheat or even shark.

I'm not even sure a crooked rack would give him any kind of advantage. Unless you're playing a specific ball on the break, the break is pretty random.

I snapped the nine in on the fourth and fifth rack. He was afraid I was going to do it again. I am sure of it.

I don't think he was scared of me or anybody else. I do think he thought he might be packing his bags and going home because he was down 5 zip. He drove a long way to that tournament.
