MOSCONI CUP 2023 AZB Watch Party / Master Thread

we've been through this. filler utilizes the closed bridge a lot:

i think lil ko does it too (just a hunch) but maybe not as high %. shane obviously does it. them three may be outliers compared to the rest of the top elite players, but it's obviously not incompatible with play on tight pockets.
I didn’t say do not play closed bridge. I do it as well. I’m saying long tough shots. Give me time stamp of 5 or more long tough shot which require actually potting where he used closed bridge

Why did you skip the first part of my post? If you know something the rest of us don't, please elaborate. I have no issues believing that the open bridge can be more beneficial, I use it myself for almost all shots, but I've heard many say they are more comfortable and play better with a closed bridge. And among the pros, there's both open and closed bridge users. So, it would seem it's a matter of preference, perhaps depending on the intricacies of the player's physique and other parts of the players technique, such as sighting and stroke.

I made a thread recently on here asking if people could give me explanations for why a closed bridge might be better. The overarching conclusion from that thread was the same as what I had already assumed; personal preference.

That is my opinion for why one should pick open or closed, what is yours? Why do you think open bridge is better objectively?
It’s not better I didn’t say that. I play closed bridge on certain shots

Better choice is subjective.

Same result is not.

Wolfort choked more times than I can remember in this event but everyone seems just ok about it? Missed moderately difficult shots by a mile. Shots pros should almost never miss I don't care the "stage".

Yet he is the best we have and that's sad.

He was 91% on attempted shots and played some great safeties.

As if it wasn't already clear enuff this edition of the MC just further re-enforces the G--------------A---------------P between US and European big-table pool. As long as the barbox is the main US playground do NOT expect this to change any time soon, if ever. Too brutal of a take? Don't think so in light of what i've seen the last 10-15yrs.

With the increasing professionalism (and prize money) of the World Nineball Tour, if the Americans travel as much as the Europeans do they will close the gap and future Mosconi Cup's will eventually be close. If they don't travel as much then the Europeans are likely to remain dominant.

I suspect as the prize money increases and travel therefore becomes more financially viable we may see more US players playing in some of the Asian & European events and that will increase the player pool the US team can choose from (and also prepare the players better, by playing in front of larger crowds, even if not as hostile as the Mosconi crowd).

Except they weren't. At least not all of them, and he definitely made way more tough shots.

The 9ball and 7ball that Shane missed in the first teams match were easier than any shot Wolford missed.
Game 5 of the final match the nine ball he missed was ridiculous. About the same as SVB's really. Not that SVB was the subject of this. I don't have any gripe about his performance. I fully understand he did his very best. It just isn't up to the very best of about 50 European pros. Why not just accept that and move on?

Next year, for the second match, draw two random fans, one from the American side, one from the Euro side, and make them play each other best of five. Enormous entertainment value, drama, and momentum for whichever side wins.

Is one "fan" called Allison Fisher and the other called Jennifer Barretta?

Its that scene from Glow when the woman stands up and choose a career over the boyfriend.

Such a disappointing (borderline embarrassing) event. The US team is capable of winning, but they have 0 margin for error and have to catch a break or two.

The city I live in (Wichita) seems to have a decent pool pedigree, and in the 2-3 years since I started playing pool I’ve only spent maybe 20-30 minutes on a 9 ft table. There are only 2 tables available and they’re generally being used for 1-pocket. I’m convinced the lack of 9 ft tables is a huge reason why European fundamentals are so superior to what we have here in the states.

I think I'm going to pass on a few MC until the American team wins one. It's not that interesting seeing something so one sided. At least some back and forth could make it interesting. Watching a one sided blood bath (either side) is extremely boring.

More like rolling his eyes.

Matchroom has to promote women its standard around the world. Female promotions are not in the MR organization this year or its history.

Matchroom is letting someone else be responsible for showcasing the best female pool talent.

Maybe they are an organization with boys club values only stuck in the 40s.

...winced as I watched the daily Matchroom re-cap on YT. Brutal watching that 'tool' chest puffer / chest pounder routine after every match
