Should Mosconi Cup have one woman

Didn’t they do that already?

Edit: guess it’s been since the inaugural event. Long time coming?

It has already been done. I recall both Vivian Villareal and Jeanette Lee representing Team USA and Allison Fisher and Franziska Stark (a women's European 9-ball champion) representing Team Europe. The ladies only played each other.

I think this was done in the 1994 Mosconi Cup and possibly again in 1995, but Matchroom didn't stay the course. It's a safe bet that they had access to the TV ratings numbers for both the men's matches and the women's matches and found that what the viewing customer preferred to watch the men.

As has been noted often on this forum, women's pool is not part of Matchroom's core offering, so there's no reason to expect to find women playing in the Mosconi anytime soon,

Nonetheless, for those who want to watch men and women on the same team, try the World Team Championships, which has team of three. It's a solid event and this year, Team Germany won the event with a team of Josh Filler, Moritz Neuhausen and Pia Filler.

Yes, Europe has Kelly Fisher, Jasmin Ouschan and Kristina Tkach. All three are significantly better players than any American woman. The inclusion of women would likely make the Mosconi Cup even more lopsided than it is presently.
Well we’ve got Alison Fischer now and maybe Margaret fefilova so America’s import policy might help us out on the women’s front too.

I STILL say MR should open the MC to be a Global event instead of USA vs. Europe. If anyone seen the Hanoi Open; they would understand SE Asia's Love for pool.
(MR,.... if you do, I want a 2% royalty!)

That would be missing the whole point of the MC. Now, if they had a month....it sure would be fun

Missing the whole point?? ya kiddin' ,right?
Mosconi was all about straight pool. What does MR do? Make it a short race 9-ball format.
ugh.
Agreed,..... longer than 4 days, BUT that would only make more slaughter to team USA.
Make it
Straight pool- endurance
15 ball rotation-pattern/position
9-ball on 10ft. - long table
1 Pocket- banks/aim
Then we all will know WHO the best all-around pool player is. 😬

they're having the inaugural efren reyes cup this year, MC winner vs asia. as for the south americans, kiwis, canucks etc there's always the world cup of pool.

mosconi cup is fine as it is.

The women played only in 1994. Both Americans went undefeated. The women did not just play each other -- the Americans each won a singles match against a man, Villareal was in 1 winning mixed-doubles match, and Lee was in 2 winning mixed-doubles matches.

Absolutely and you named only three of the strong women from Europe. In men's division Europe and Asia is dominant but in the women's division even more. So a female player in team Europe will strengthen them even more.

Thanks for that. I don't think i watched my first Mosconi until about 1999, so I was going on what I'd heard and read, but I'm obviously not recalling it with accuracy. Interesting that women as participants lasted just a year.
