The rail in the pic you just posted says "Gorina". I'm pretty sure that's not Simonis.

And what's up with the white mark on the red ball?
That is previous round of cloth and they went with simonis for this round. Hope to get mack again soon and will take a pic.

And tex is right, PBA balls. They have aramith too but nobody uses them.

I prefer the PBA balls. They seem a tad heavier and hold spin better than the aramith.

Never tried the dynaspheres.

Played a set last night and was doing pretty well in the middle. Sucked at the start and end though!

I don't like PBA balls. They actually are not heavier than Aramiths but they play llike they were. Less deflection, dunno why but they have. They should not have, because they have same mass. Must be different distribution of mass or something.

You get a narrower carom angle (less ball deflection) when the material is not as bouncy (technical term: elastic). One feature of ivory balls compared to plastic is that they had relatively poor elasticity. Follow shots were easier and draw shots harder.

A lot of science as well as trial-and-error likely goes into making a bouncy billiard ball. It's probably easy to make one that's a little dead. I have heard that Aramith bounced the carom balls off a steel block and the ones that bounced the highest were reserved for the pro tournaments.
Yeah. I feel PBA balls are not so bouncy and feel like im hitting a rock.

It looks like Mr. Park from Los Angeles was out in Virginia changing the cloth this week.
He's the best mechanic in the country!

They definitely do not bounce off each other like the aramith.

Has been about a year since I used any other set.

That was about a month ago and I haven't touched a 4ball table, but the 10' tables are perfect.

Mr. balled, it's been a long time. Sounds like you're keeping busy.

Insoo Park is the best and also happens to be the late, great, Sang Lee's cousin (or some relation) for those that didn't know. He's also a very nice man.

Would have like to meet him (and sang Lee too).

Both have brought me many billiards smiles.

Played my best 20pt set ever last night.
Ran 3 from the break
Ran 7
Other runs of 3 and 4.
Finished 1.333 avg and was very frustrating to be stuck at 19 for 3 turns.
Had I closed it out with my first opportunity, I think it would have been 1.850 avg (?).
Damn game. Ready to go back there now.

Ha! I had the opportunity to do a deep dive into the (billizone) stats kept at this spot and I seems there are only two players there that have played sets with a higher avg than 1.333 in the past year.

I think one was 2.8ish and the other 2.2ish, so far better than 1.333, but damn.

Proof blind squirrels can play billiards, as I've returned to my sadly comfortable.400/.500 zone.

I can see how it's expensive to run the 3 cushion tables, picking up the balls continuously that would have hit those other cushions IS a LOT of work ;-) yes I'm kidding !
