Pocket Facings - Reduce Pocket Size

Hello,

I have a 4.5''-inch-pocket Brunswick GCIII.

Is it possible to reduce the pocket size to 4.25'' (or even more) just by stacking cushion facings?

Thanks!

How did it get to 4 1/2", that's not stock. Originally they came with 5" corner pockets and 5 1/2" sides.
It has artemis cushions now. Not the stock ones.
That didn't answer the question...lol. Were the subrails extended to get the pockets to 4.5" or did someone install the Artemis rubber and stack the facings? Can you post a pic of your pockets? Take the shot from above so we can see the pocket angle.

Generally speaking, stacking facings is not the correct way to tighten pockets because the pockets will play dead and if you are stacking on the factory pocket angel, the pocket geometry will be off the more you stack.. If you have 1/8" facings now on properly extended subrails, you could replace those with 3/16" facings which would give you 1/8" reduction or you could go with 1/4" to get you the full 1/4" reduction you're looking for. I don't know if any mechanics use 1/8" facings though so you probably already have 3/16" on your table as they are pretty standard.

Thicker facings will also throw off banks that are very close to the pocket.

I'm interested in knowing the best thickness and the best material of facing, because here at my pool hall we use the version that we buy from the manufacturer 1/8 thick and hard material and the ball hit hard pratically like as if there were none. I seen a video from Venom changing cloth on his table, and the facing seem thick, check the video at 2.35- 2.36 and let me know what do you think that can be, we will have to work on our rails and by the way adjust angle and facing. Thank You!

I've seen this video before.
Unfortunately I'm not impressed at all by the way he installs the cloth.
Particularly with the rail cloth install.
He does use a Starrett level so thumbs up for that (y)
Peace :):):)

I agree with you, but it's the table of Venom and I assumed that if his facings were a bit thicker it might be better, it seems to be 1/4.....!

found it

Why do you think everyone seems sold on 3/16. To me that just seems to add a little more dead area around the pocket.
Ever seen the beat up, split end of the rails on most commercial pool tables that use 1/8" facings? Ever seen the stencil cutting through the cloth at the end of the rails, about center of the facings, from the balls being fired in the pockets? If not, then you don't have enough experience to make a judgment call on the thickness of pocket facings, because I've been repairing the damage from 1/8" pocket facings my whole career working on pool tables!!

That was a question, not a judgement. If you didn't read far enough back in the thread to get that, that's on you.

We bought 10 rolls of this neoprene, good quality and very low price, I then finished them to 3/16'' thick with a disc sandblaster, it does a perfect job, this sandblaster is an incredible tool!
