Back pain while playing

If it is bad, get an MRI, but do not mess around. Be sure you get a Three Axis or Three Tier MRI. These will show things that a garden variety MRI misses. In any event, find a physical therapist who specializes in massage and manipulation.
Avoid back surgery if at all possible.
 
Stay away from the strong dope if at all possible. Addictive and after a few days you will be praying to take a dump.
define 'dope'. You mean weed? Cuz there is no evidence of any chemical addiction issues. Habitual/behavioral addiction sure, like anything else we get pleasure from. As for praying to take a dump....this is what made me question your definition of dope... opiates def have this affect so strong pharmaceutical pain killers will disrupt regularity so to speak a lot more than cannabis will.
 
The DEA has ended any possibility of obtaining therapeutic amounts of opiates for "back" issues. Unless you have terminal cancer, doctors, even pain specialists, are in constant fear of losing their licenses.
 
I do some yoga stretches each morning...cat, cow and cobra. I do pushups since I'm already on the damn floor too. All that helps. I tweaked my back a few years ago doing stone work. Bad call there, been paying for that one for years.
 
Braces can be a slippery slope.
I suggest losing weight, etc as others have , sometimes even stretching can do damage , go extremely light and if it isn't getting better after a couple of days , talk to your doctor. All of my pain doctors have suggested acetimenophen vs ibuprofen mainly because of less side effects and better relief.
If you play once a week for a couple of hours, a back brace might really help, if you are going to play longer or more frequently I would not use it, they only make the area they are trying to protect , weaker, and it can happen fast!
Now that I am older, I feel a lot better if I do some very light stretching , when I first wake up, just getting blood flowing and everything lined up.

Also, if you decide to get a cortizone injection, if they don't have you under a scope looking at the trigger point,, it is useless and can be very dangerous. Especially near the spine. I had 5 or 6 and none of them ever helped and only the last 1 was done correctly.

I'll admit I'm tall and overweight. When I play by myself lower back pain starts at about an hour. Drills even sooner since I'm constantly leaning over. Aside from losing weight which im workong on. Will a back brace help? I can play for a while if I'm playing with someone. It's the constant leaning over.
I suffer with back pain as well and I understand what you mean. I do a lot of drilling at home and something that I do may help you last longer. For me I drill with one ball at a time, meaning I have to get up walk to where the balls are get one place it in it's spot and go back to the shot. I don't hurry this process. Drills are only great if you put great concentration into each shot. This very deliberate process saves my back and makes my practice more effective.

You shouldn't be leaning over (from the waist). I'm also tall and have shown many players to stand more like you want to try to lift the table from the ground. Sitting down into the stance, flexing into the knees like a wrestler or boxer, you straighten your lower back in the stance. Students who had back pain reported their back feels better than normal after hours of pool!

I had a bunch of friends who kept telling me I should try pot for my pain. I did, can you imagine being in terrific pain and being high? It never helped , then they said I smoked the wrong kind, {why didn't they tell me there were two kinds}?
I tried again, there I was I am in terrific pain and high again, that was about 15 years ago.
I have friends who have smoked pot since the 1960s, they always say , it hasn't affected me at all, but whenever I talk to them, they have been looking for something, for a week. I misplace something once in a while , but I am not constantly on an Easter egg hunt for all the stuff I have lost the last month

You are quite right that different types do different things. I found a high cbd strain called 'dead lights' that is great for me so I grow it myself (it's legal here so I can say that). But some of the superhero weed from dispensaries I've tried with friends has very much the same effect on me as you experienced... the back is still somewhat of an issue and even if it wasn't, it gets me so high I routinely forget who's solids or stripes even deep into racks, lack any etiquette at all, and find myself shooting more fun shots than winning shots. It's a fun night out to be fair, but it ain't pool.
 
My lower back pain was in the muscles. My doctor demonstrated backbends for stretching which was instant relief. Just a thought for you.
 
100 percent. Working on that now. Lol.
Most back pain comes from weak stomach muscles. The muscles are not strong enough to hold the weight so it shifts the weight somewhere's else AKA your back.

Maybe start walking doing back streches etc.

Strength training is the best counter.
Taking an anti inflammatory like Aleve before beginning your session will also be helpful.
If you are on the heavier side, best to start adjusting your diet accordingly.
