Benny's Billiards/Rumble Fish

I just watched the 1983 movie and took a short dive. Seems Benny's was a real room. No real details, but Google had some info. Seems it eventually became a bar -- Valkyrie. What are the stories? Where yat, Garczar?

One last shot. I have it figured one of two ways: either Benny's was of no consequence or old time Oklahoma pool players have disappeared just as fast as the old time pool rooms. Sad to think/hard to believe what pool has come to during my lifetime. I did a lot of driving in the South/Southwest and these types of pool rooms were everywhere. One did not have to search hard for them because everyone could tell you where they were -- in their town and next one over. An entire way of life is nearing extinction. No habitat. No species.

Never heard of it. It was just a name/place in the book. Only poolroom anywhere close to downtown was Boulder Billiards at 311 S. Boulder. Awesome old school walk-down joint run by Randy 'Fat Randy' Wallace. That book was set in 60's/70's and filmed in '83 and there was NO Benny's Billiards at either time. Funny related tale, while they were filming downtown i went down to BB's to shoot some not knowing what was going on. Had to park blocks away and i walked right into their movie shit. Had to sidestep some lights/cameras on my way to the 'hall. Tulsa was like redneck Hollywood for a few yrs, they filmed 'The Outsiders' and 'Rumble Fish' basically back-to-back. Coppola did them both. The author, S.E. Hinton, was/is a friend of my sisters. I went to Rogers, the h.s. used in Outsiders.

Thanks for the reply. I knew you would have the answer. When watching the movie, I considered Benny's was a set -- among other things, the painted name on the window was a little funky. But, what I saw on net made me think it was real. I guess the address was just the storefront where they created the set.

What happened to Boulder Billiards?

long closed. it wasn't doing great and the last straw was it was right next to the newspaper and they wanted the space for new print equipment. it was a magical place and where my love/addiction began. walk-down joint with old Brunswick pool/snooker tables, back room for cards and female 'entertainment'. Fat Randy added a small bar(just beer) and really good bar food. some kind of spot lemme tell you. i bought my first good cue there, a Meucci BH-1 Rifleman from Buddy himself out of the trunk of his car. he was pimpin Meucci then and had a bunch of cue/cases to sell out on the road.
