Suggestion for long distance pool table movers

Well, I found that it’s really important to choose movers who specialize in handling bulky, delicate items like pool tables. Make sure they’re insured and have good reviews for handling special items.
Movers almost always require the slates to be crated... I typically charge $700+ to disassemble a table, crate the slates, and wrap the components.

I hired a company that only moves/installs pool tables. They dropped my slate almost immediately and broke it into pieces (1 piece slate).

Moral to the story - make sure you are insured.

If anyone tells you they’re fully insured. Get the name of the insurance company and have them supply you with the proof of coverage.

Here in NC I found only 10% of tree services were fully insured! But 100% claimed they were!

By fully insured I am talking about the business itself being insured against the usual. Additionally that they have workers compensation insurance also. That is the one most do not carry but claim they do.

The last thing I want is a guy with a chain saw 70 feet up in a tree with no workers comp.

In my way of thinking the businesses have a duty to insure their workers because they are making money off their labor. The least that a reputable company should do is care about their men and the families they support.

This is why I said make sure YOU are insured.

Yes you can purchase protection out of YOUR pocket.

What bothers me is the lying cheating contractors that are pretending to be legitimate businessmen.

If a worker gets injured on your property and his boss does not carry proper insurance (ie workers comp) guess who is going to be responsible. The property owner and perhaps his insurance company.

I prefer to make them responsible for their workers care. After all they are making money off of his/hers labor.

what table?
Just the slate - I posted it in the for sale thread, it’s not letting me put a picture here. I don’t play pool and know nothing (sorry) but it’s a custom table my dad had built himself about 25+ years ago. I wanted to keep it but I just cannot fit the table in my next house and no family can take it either. I plan to keep the legs at least since he had cut a fallen cedar tree and turned them. I’ll have to pay the pool table mover to disassemble and remove it from the house regardless. Whether or not the slate gets destroyed is a matter of if I find someone to take it!

If you list in on your local county marketplace, will someone repurpose it? If you were close to me, I’d snap it up. Would it make a good counter top?
