Jump Cue Recommendations

Jacoby for dart style for sure. I have one and it’s fantastic, super easy to jump with.

Recently “upgraded” to the AirRush and while I do like the additional length for longer jumps I’m still learning the underhand and side arm jump technique and not great at it yet. It jumps fine dart style too, though I miss the little tapered bit on the Jacoby and think I did better overall with it dart style.

Even with the AirRush, holding onto my Jacoby in case I decide to go back to dart style full time

The Stinger shaft and jump handle from McDermott will run you around $200, which is also an option on your budget. Whatever you pick, make sure your fundamentals are good. If your jump fundamentals are good, it won't matter what jump cue you pick.

Wasting your money buying a cheap jump cue. Don't listen to these guys. Save an buy a more expensive one. Dart jump is a joke. Not as accurate as jumping other way.
Your expertise is nonexistent. Your last two sentences are proof of that.
The properties that make for a good jump cue are easily attained . The materials required are not necessarily expensive. There's a difference between inexpensive and cheap. I am frugal but not cheap.
It is certainly nice to have a beautiful cue. If pleasing to the eye is important spend the money. If function is most important then a frugal purchase leaves enough for lessons on how to use the high performance instrument. 🤷‍♂️

Don't think I've ever even tried a dart stroke for a jump. I'm always normal or sidearm stroke on jumps, might try it later today during table time. Got an air2 for super cheap so never had the need to try other cues.

Jump shots come in a wide variety. Starting with a shot that Mike Massey used in his exhibition. He joked that the balls are made of "shrinkaflex" when getting the cue ball to hop almost imperceptibly to pass between 2 balls that he has just shown the gap is a tiny bit too small to pass through. The other end of the spectrum is getting whitey up and over a full ball at incredibly close quarters. The first can be executed with my shooting cue. The second requires a special cue and the skills to use it. I Don't have the skills to jump at the incredibly close range that others demonstrate. I do however have the experience to know what shots I am capable of and my make percentage, when making my shot choice.

When shooting guns the longer barrel makes for more accurate long distance shots. Comparison of a Derringer to a rifle. With a rifle 100 yards to hit a baseball is about the same as hitting the same on the ground at my feet with a Derringer. So if I can "get it up" I prefer my shooter. Next would be the break cue with phenolic tip. Next would be remove the center smallest piece of the 3 piece cue. Giving more weight and length for a longer range but less altitude. The closest obstacles would require the 40 inch minimum length and minimum weight to get it up and down quickly. Harder to be accurate but Practice will show and improve my chances of success on any given shot.

The table, cloth and balls are variables that effect my choice of jumping technique. The old wool blend cloth makes it easier to get whitey up quicker. Some tables have almost a trampoline feel due to the structure. Dirty balls act different than clean slippery balls. 🤷‍♂️

Use your junk ass jump cue then use mine. You'll throw your shit in the trash. Having to jump the ball hard rather then effortless is a huge difference. Especially when it's a close jump maybe 2 balls out.

If you consider "two balls" to be a "close jump" I'd offer that you need to worry a lot more about your technique/skill set than you do about your equipment. 😁

How good are you at jumping? We looking to make balls or do you need more accuracy for making them. If you just want to get over the ball, I just picked up the Florian Kohler edition Cuetec Surge for around $200.
